Sounds like Jones is winning. These huge judgements are good for headlines but that’s it.

Jones’ attorneys are now slow rolling it and using tactics that keep the families from getting nothing, and could work for years. That’s why the families’ attorneys are coming up with lower offers. Because those attorneys don’t get paid until the families get paid and the longer it takes the more money it costs those attorneys in billable hours.

The families and attorneys want their payday, and know AJ doesn’t have 1.5 billion. He will wait it out and they’ll eventually settle for around 20-30 million

$1.5B for hurt feelings seems a tad excessive.

The judgment is quite likelynondischargeable under the Bankruptcy Code, meaning bankruptcy won’t protect Jones’s assets.

It was sooo painful they wanted to make it global news with a massive lawsuit?

Got it!

Correct, but it is still very hard to collect against an individual determined to resist paying. In some states there is a homestead exemption, and a judgment debtor can pour a ton of wealth in a home that can't be levied on. There are a bunch of ways to string things along and make it very hard for the plaintiffs.

This case is insane and I am no fan of Alex Jones.

LOL at people in this thread defending a guy who called people with no kids crisis actors. If Alex Jones didn’t have such a bad reputation around the country and it came from a more respected source, those people’s reputations would be stained in every way.

It was a POS thing to do.

Jones or his guests mentioned Sandy 1939 times across 487 episodes.

He mentioned it enough to directly inspire harassment of the victims parents, and then refuse to retract or apologize when he knew that was happening.

Contributors he’s had on the show many times were arrested for harassing the parents of victims.

These parents had the graves of their dead children desecrated by these people motivated by Alex Jones. And people will still come on here and defend him.

Besides, defamation laws are predicated on the notion that words do incite people to act. Where do you think the damages element comes from in defamation cases? It’s not the effects of the sound waves passing over the eardrums of the aggrieved party….its the secondary effects of what people do when they believe the false information.

Defamation deals with damages to someone's reputation, not a falsehood that leads to stalking/threats.

The actions the original poster asserted Jones made his audience perform is not covered by defamation laws. Those sorts of behaviors fall squarely on the individuals that did it, not on Alex Jones. That's why he wasn't charged with the illegal activities some of his listeners performed against the Sandy Hook families because he's not responsible.

Pretending that he is responsible removes agency from healthy adults, which is not how our legal system works.

But you knew all that and were just looking for people to argue with. Which is why I was hesitant to even address your bullshite sidestepping, hand-waving, line of argument.

So, arrest the people who committed these crimes.

How can you argue that Alex Jones’ used his platform to spread a message that drove others to threaten and harass these families while somehow also believe their reputations were not harmed?

Jillian Soto-Marino, the last witness of the day, testified she was accosted at charity 5K race for her sister, by Matthew Mills, a conspiracy theorist who had been a guest on Jones’ Infowars show. Mills was arrested at the event for harassing Soto-Marino with allegations that her sister, first-grade teacher Vicki Soto, never existed. He was sentenced to two years probation.

I wouldn’t give them a penny either. It was a ridiculous lawsuit.

I'm quite literally arguing the exact opposite.

Defamation is the only thing you can pin on him. He didn't inhabit his listener's bodies and force them to do what they did.

He tarnished reputations, he didn't stalk/threaten/etc.

What do you think he was ultimately found guilty of?
