Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday reintroduced legislation that he said would end the “international embarrassment” of the US being one of the few countries in the world to not offer guaranteed paid vacation time for workers.

Sanders (I-Vt.)—who is co-sponsoring the Guaranteed Paid Vacation Act along with Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.)—said guaranteed vacation was essential for all American families.

The legislation proposes giving every worker in the US the right to accrue at least one hour of paid annual leave for every 25 hours worked, with full-time workers earning at least two weeks of paid annual leave per year.

I'd imagine that 99% of full time employees already get 2 weeks vacation.

These people live in lala land. Every low income job i've ever worked had people calling out all the Fn time. You'd be lucky if these "full time" workers worked 30 hours a week.

I don't know of a single company where everyone doesn't get 2 weeks from from day 1. Its accrued, but the minimum I've ever seen is 2 weeks.

So desperate. The only way to get them to vote for you is to offer them money.

This sounds like commie Bernie stirring up a nothing burger issue. I think 77 percent get at least 2 weeks. Others are likely in low wage jobs.

This.

Bernie's creating a non issue to portray himself as the champion of workers' rights.

Back when I worked for the Canadians we started with two weeks off. It maxed at 5 weeks after 20 years and you could take multiple weeks off at a time for a true vacation. We also got all of the Canadian and American holidays off. That was pretty awesome.

Lots of businesses can't afford to do such a thing or they would. You signed on to work where ever then you agreed to the terms. If this passes there are going to be some layoffs.

I already have 4 weeks of vacation.

However, I'm straight commission, so not paid if I'm not working.

Easy for him to say this when he doesn’t operate a business with thin margins that he helped create.

Between that and a $30 minimum wage, everybody better like $25 hamburgers.

a lot of companies do 90 days before you start accuring.

others accure on day 1 but can't take PTO until 90 days

it shouldn't be a law but how stingy companies are with time off sucks.
