There was a day when that was actually a useful term but today it’s lost its meaning.

Back when the Democrats and the Republicans resembled different branches of similar approaches, it would’ve been fine to say I can just cross the aisle over there because I agree in principle with the other side. Democrats from the south were basically Democrats because they were either one representing minorities or two they were representing agricultural interest. Joe Lieberman was a pretty good example not of a southern Democrat, but of a democrat that had principles. You could find common ground with him. But now the Democrats have lost their mind. They’ve been taken over by woke ideology they are anti-American and anti-Israel. So now basically you have the Warhawk group within the Republican ranks that are at odds with Donald Trump. You have the Republicans who do not like his style. And I’m not sure that you can now say that Republicans are Republicans are name only if they don’t agree with Trump. Why? Because Trump is not a republican. He’s a populist. The man is no more republican than he is a libertarian.

Trump is a populist with conservative leanings.
In reality, he is a 90’s Blue Dog Dem.

As for RINOs - yes they exist…en masse.

A conservative Republican at the Federal level should be called a unicorn.

GOPe are the new Dems.

Democrats are the Communazis.

Again, this is only at the Federal level.

That being said, the “trickle down” effect is a concern imho.

I use it as a term for a Republican who votes with the Dems.

Also yes Trump is a Populist the Rep party is the big tent party currently and a large coalition so that fits.

The old school Republican of the W era are dying out thankfully.

Yup, and no one will ever come out and say this. Trump's ideology is whatever he decides to post on Truth Social at that moment. Hence, his actions and statements often contradict each other, and the people he appoints rarely survive his term without ending up on his bad side. One day, he is expanding the national government and spending money like crazy, and the next, he is creating DOGE and cutting welfare programs. There's zero continuity to his policy, message, or actions, and it gets worse the older he gets

This is the best trick the uniparty ever pulled…make one side so ridiculously liberal that the entire system shifts left. Rinse and repeat often enough and pretty soon the entire system is ridiculously liberal and we still think we’re conservatives.

We are already at the point where we’re no longer fighting for true conservative values, but fighting over whether boys should play girls’ sports or be allowed in girls’ bathrooms. We’re fighting over whether we should allow the whole world to freely invade our borders with no consequences.

These are not liberal or conservative battles, but complete idiocy. They are fought so we don’t realize that line in the middle is constantly moving to the left.

I wish

They are trying to take back the party after Trump is gone led by Thune's of the world. Even people like Mike Johnson are more along the lines of GOPe than someone like Vance

In the media sphere they are led by the Ben Shapiros and Erick Erickson and their ilk

Well, that’s kind of my point. My point is that they Republicans. Why? Because number one they’re definitely not Democrats. Number two they’re not Trump is Trump and republican so their Republicans. Now here’s the thing I’m not saying the act of what they do questionable. And yes, in the sense they still go across the island you know vote with Democrats. But there’s no way that we can say that Trump is a republican. And so they call them never Trumper‘s. They call him warmongers.

But in fact, there is a principal difference between Democrats and Republicans even more so now than there ever has been. And the Republican Party has always been more comfortable as a minority party. There’s always been the tendency to accommodate the other side, but when the Democrats get party, none of that happens.

So I’m not sure what the intended purpose of saying someone like Josh Hawley is a rhino. That Lindsey Graham was a rhino. I mean Ted Cruz Marco Rubio, and any other republican senator has done their share of walk across the aisle, and been an instructionist.

I’d argue there is the populist right (AF/MAGA) / conservative free trade right / GOPe and some soft independents who were abandoned by the left operating within one coalition and the DNCe / socialist left in another.

Interestingly the GOPe and DNCe really want basically the same things behind closed doors and just campaign separately for reasons of electability.

The MAGA/AF is the majority of the right base, but has almost no one in congress because the GOP apparatus is run entirely by the GOPe and kills those candidates in the primaries.

Meanwhile the socialists are now taking over the DNC apparatus because the party leadership lost control of the base they placated going back decades and now have a real socialist/communist majority serious about taking over.

None of that spells long term stability for America and if Trump leaves office without fixing any of the problems he was elected to address the socialist left is going to explode in popularity by disaffected members of the population who have been left behind fiscally and fed up with the failure of the GOPe and DNCe to solve their problems.

I mean look at this board - most seem to support war in Iran and Ukraine

Still have a lot Ted Cruz fans

Every time Vance say something populist they freak out
Any piece of economic legislation that is not meant to juice the stock market is considered socialist by many on this board

This line of thinking is why this country is destined to fail.

"The GOPe refuses to give Trump the policy wins we voted for, so I'm going to vote for the party that loves to kill babies, cut the ducks off of little boys, open the floodgates to illegals, celebrate every time a white person is murdered, take away property rights, and increase taxes."

I know common sense is at a premium these days, but come on. If you're so stupid that not getting everything you want from Trump means you now support the Democratic Socialists, then there truly is no hope for this country.

Emotional thinking and loss of testosterone will have damaged this country irreparably.

I know many want to blame Trump for not being able to control a bought-and-paid-for congress that hates the American people, but at some point, we have to blame the idiots for the way they think and vote. If you're so emotional that you need to flip flop between our only 2 diametrically opposed parties because the conservative party is less than perfect, then you are not fit to have a say in the direction of the country.

The battle between tolerable and evil should never be a complicated choice. No politician will ever give you everything you want, but there is a clear delineation between the two parties that anyone with an IQ over 80 should be able to discern without effort.

It honestly shouldn't matter how relatively bad Trump and the GOP are compared to your expectations, because the democrat alternative will always be worse. The time to fight is in the primaries. If people are too dumb to see how this country will be worse under DSA's reign, then please request that they abstain from voting.

You’re ignoring their perspective.

Gen Z is waiting for evidence that modern America works for them.

Right now they have 4th wave feminists accusing them of rape on social media if they hit on someone at a bar, student loans and a horrible entry level job market paired with exploding living costs while boomers warn them not to buy avocado toast.

They’re giving populism a chance to fix them ala Charlie Kirk. It isn’t working at all yet.

If it doesn’t show results they’re going to try the other end of the spectrum whether you like it or not.
