Ya we’re cooked until 2030 at a minimum and most likely until 2032.

It's true, and honestly that's too long. By that point, they'll have stacked the Supreme Court. This may very well go down in history as the point when freedom was lost in America.

Right, but the end goal was "you drop your tariffs, we'll drop ours." He was leveling the playing field.
In an academic sense I never objected to the core "you can just do things" idea. Trump throwing off conventional wisdom rules that don't work is/was the best thing about Trump (also, at times, the worst, but I digress).
But ultimately Trump could never really articulate how the juice was worth the squeeze when there was never really a path to meaningful rebalancing via increased exports to some of these places.

Yeah good luck on that happening. Hopefully Thune calls a recess of the Senate and Trump can make some recess appointments. Otherwise, prosecutions aren't going to be happening.

I’ve said it before, the GOP is a coalition party now.
Whether that coalition can be big enough to win depends on whether the various factions can coexist.
The populist nationalist right needs jobs, higher wages and wealth building for the younger generation or it won’t stay.
The GOPe wants military spending, low taxes and some way of keeping wages low for their donor class.
The 2024 platform agenda was the balance to those things by onshoring jobs and building enough wealth that everyone is happy.
We don’t know if that approach can bridge the gap because the 2024 platform hasn’t been implemented and the factories Trump deserves credit for driving onshore haven’t finished being built yet.
But if the older republicans don’t listen to the younger republicans more than they have they’re going to get socialism and globalism before they’re in retirement homes and based on what we’ve seen in Canada and Europe my hope is that’s a scary enough prospect to get the two sides to rebuild a coalition that works for everyone.

What you're missing is it's over. Deed, if texas is blue, there will never be another r. In any national election that's going to win the presidency. And as soon as they get the presidency in twenty twenty eight, you will be living in a socialist world. It's over.

I think the main problem here is SCOTUS basically said he couldn't use tariffs in this way. It had to be all or nothing, so using them to actually improve trade became a pipe dream.

Yep that’s the fear. To the Republicans in MS, TX, SC etc that couldn’t plug your nose, elections have consequences and watch the democrats implement the stuff they want, something the GOP never does

Care to present your plan for moving forward?.
That would be to let fricking morons like you suffer in your own stupidity moving forward. You’ll enjoy having establishment repubs lead you around by your dick every couple years, maybe a nice reach around every four years while they whisper in your ear all the wonderful things they are going to fight for in exchange for your vote. They’ll get you all bricked up after you put them in office and then….
They’ll take that mandate you voted for, toss it in the trash and frick you nice and hard in the arse with no lube, just like they’ve always done. Enjoy your prolapsed colon friend!

I really don't think the people talking about "the future" are looking at what this result means alongside upcoming election cycles. This is devastating.
I realize people say "this is the most important election" every cycle, but this is one that the country absolutely could not give to the Dems. Our electorate failed, and we're going to all reap the "rewards" of that failure.

Good gosh. I've seen some overreactions to last night.. but joining yet another sham impeachment process will help usher the right back into power??? That's a friken doozy there.

quote:You seem way too focused on Trump.
5) start talking about free trade, cutting spending, and fighting the influence of China. Reduce energy prices and mortgage rates. Focus on affordability. 6) Break up the multiple billion dollar plus deals Trump set up for his kids and SIL. Stop the insider trading in Congress. Talk about term limits. Be the anti corruption party. What am I missing?
Even with his mistakes, we’re still looking at Congress littered with republicans who will never allow for your solutions/ideas to take hold.
To me, that’s a significantly larger issue than Trump fricking up.

Study the ebs and flows of politics over our history and you will see that this is simply not true. Kennedy and LBJ gave us Nixon. Carter gave us Reagan. Obama gave us Trump.
People get angry at whomever is in power and throw them out. The most predictable cycle ever

Totally agree. But you have to start somewhere. And you have to have a premise. A fall guy. And you have to have a new message..and a hero.
Trump is your fall guy. Burn him down. Pick a new message. Pick a new hero. Get back up and get going.
If you dont have the stomach for this ride, you don't have the stomach for politics

Some of you really do not understand how colossally bad last night was. There is no strategy for moving forward. Rs can't win the Senate in 2028., and you're fooling yourself if you think voters are going to vote for an R president in 2028 either. Hang it up. It's over.
The GOP got worked last night, and it will take a John Kerry-type disaster to keep the Dems from winning in 2028. We're screwed.

Again, to what end?
This really only applies to economics. Culturally it's pretty much straight downward.

People are voting against Trump/GOP more than they are voting FOR the Dems. Majority of people vote with emotions more than they do logic, which is scary. The Dems will win in 2028; hopefully, it will be someone who is not anti-American.
