They reportedly had a shot they could have taken BEFORE he entered the school, however they passed up on the opportunity because they were afraid of missing and hitting children inside the school.

quote:

Two Uvalde cops passed up a chance to take out the gunman who killed 19 kids and two teachers at a Texas elementary school before he entered the building, according to a report.

The officers worked for the city, and one was armed with an AR-15-style rifle as the May 24 massacre at Robb Elementary School unfolded.

But they hesitated to open fire at Salvador Ramos because they did not want to hit any nearby children, Chief Deputy Ricardo Rios of the Zavalla County Sheriff’s office told The New York Times.

The chance to stop the 18-year-old before he carried out his plans for a massacre passed quickly, perhaps in seconds, Rios said.

The missed opportunity came moments after a school district officer drove past Ramos without seeing him in the school parking lot. Ramos then slipped inside the school through an unlocked back door and began his attack.

No wonder they're trying to keep the body cam footage from entering the public record. Some a-hole walks by a cop in a parking lot on school property with an AR-15 and the cop doesn't even notice.

And to think literally a week or two later a woman with a carry permit in West Virginia took out a guy with an AR-15.
a good woman with a gun takes out the trash

I remember one time the press complaint about carry permits and how those people wouldn't be able to handle an active shooter and yet a lady with a pistol takes out a guy who opened fired with an AR-15.

That’s a legitimate part of current use of force training. You’re responsible for the target and what’s behind it. If you miss and his an innocent bystander, you get charged with murder.

This is the result of hamstringing cops with so much policy they’re now hesitant to do their jobs.

I’m not defending these cops because they suck but this is policing in Biden’s America.

You should always be aware of your backdrop when shooting, but if you’re armed and some dipshit is walking towards a school with a weapon you do whatever you can to create a distraction of yourself so he doesn’t go and kill 19 elementary aged kids and 2 teachers.

Cops aren’t hero’s, just mostly thugs that take a small paycheck.

No different than a street thug except the gov pays them.

I think the cops didn’t take the shot due to George Floyd not the background.

This is on the media.

They need to release all of the video including body cams before he entered the classroom. Too many holes in this story.

I wouldn't fault the cops if there was serious danger in the background or if they weren't aware of him being a serious threat to kids. But supposedly this guy fired a bunch of shots at several windows of the school right before the school officer passed by and before the 2 cops saw him outside the school. That should have been very load and obvious to anyone nearby.

I don't know how any of these allegations square:

1. At least one cop didn't see the shooter and drove by the shooter while the shooter was outside, allegedly hiding behind a car, and ....

2. The shooter got in through an unlocked door so quickly that the cops couldn't do anything to stop him. Or ...

3. The shooter shot into classrooms from outside the building, before going inside. And ...

4. Two cops were on scene, armed and able to shoot the shooter and passed on the opportunity.

None of that makes any sense. Either he hid and got inside too quickly, before law enforcement could react/get on scene and stop him. Or ...

He was outside shooting at the building, cops had enough time to respond and get a bead on the guy and then decided to pass on the chance to shoot him. (I mean, unless this school had three armed officers routinely patrolling the perimeter, the two cops that passed on the shot were obviously at the scene because someone was shooting at the school.)

Learning, through the current report, that there were at least two cops on scene and that they were in a position take the shooter down before he got into the building seems to indicate that the "we didn't have enough time to do anything about it" is a fabrication.

They should all be doxed and let the public deal with them. They're some of the biggest cowards in human history.

Its rather obvious the deer hunters are on the out doors board instead of here. Having a trophy buck walk past your deer stand generates a severe case of buck fever that makes the aiming a challenge

And if he’d shot, missed and killed a child he’d be crucified, with you probably at the front of the line handing out nails.

Grow the frick up people, and start judging things from the perspective the cop has at that moment rather than after the fact when you know what happens when they didn’t act.

Take time, learn what happened and what the officers were aware of when actions were taken, or not taken.

Right now you get one piece of information like this, it gets tossed to the fisking sharks and you gobble it up without thinking.

Take time and think. Did they act as well as they could have? No, but it will be weeks, probably months yet before we are able to dissect this whole thing to the point of having a real understanding. Quit taking bits and pieces that fit a narrative and running.

You would think, but there are already examples of cases that arose from similar school shootings that do not result in victims family receiving any form of financial restitution.

Ultimately I think the reason being the cops did not directly cause the violence. There are no guarantees of safety inherent in our constitution.

This begs to question the entire purpose of police. One of the biggest criticisms of policing in America is that they are really just a profit center in small towns like Uvalde.
