If they had a shot without kids in danger, I agree, they should have taken it.
However, there isn’t a doubt in my mind that had they done that, those cops would be getting the evil cop treatment for shooting that innocent youth who was just target practicing on his way to or from church to his volunteer shift.

They didn’t take the shot because they are cowards. It’s why the mostly show up afterwards.
