See where this stuff is coming from?

No. But it might be reasonable to believe that people who advocate for the removal of age-of-consent laws aren’t generally to be trusted around children. Foucault did that publicly in France. He also wrote in his book on sexuality that men’s sexual relationships with boys could be “foundational” for the boy.

ETA: no one should be surprised that Sartre, Derrida and Foucault were perverts. They were all nuts.

I wonder if Fauci ran into Foucault while Fauci was trolling bathhouses in SF?

Good. Somehow I totally missed out on this guy.

I started hearing about him in the late 70s when 'post mod' got started. His arguments were stupid. I immediately realized that post mod is stupid. It is.

The idea that he would refer to screwing little boys as "making love" tells me he's probably a screwed up individual himself

What type of defense will the progs make in defending Foucault's actions?

This is an accurate summation of post modernism.

Gore Vidal the great author and left wing intellectual almost certainly groomed many young men and women in this fashion. It was super common and he’d glibly allude to it in his books and in interviews - they felt that history excused them bc all of the great minds in previous eras did this.

This.

I thought it was common knowledge that the French intellectual elite literally led a highly public campaign to lower the French age of consent down to like 12 or 13.

They were rebuked by the general public and the government, but there's no doubt that they all carried on the practice in private.

When you're entire argument is basically perspective is everything, then everything is essentially meaningless....yeah, it is quite misguided.

I spent years embroiled in this stuff in academia in the early 2000s. It's an empty philosophy that has cloaked the beauty of the world in meaninglessness. It's frustrating to watch it happen.

No joke, the people I know who most closely align themselves with Foucault and Derrida, etc all went into Seminary or Academia.

I always go back to the seminal story for me at the time.

I was in a room, with a bunch of "smart" people thinking "smart" things....and a presenter talked about how Huckleberry Finn is actually a homosexual love story. Why do you ask? Specifically because they never mention loving each other, the absence of that love created the homosexual tension that was then found in various places in the book.

Yes. Huckleberry was made to be a homosexual fantasy by Mark Twain between a boy (see this thread) and a man.

This was a real conversation, engaged with multiple decently well known Academics, who which everyone in the room, but me, agreed with. Lots of nodding heads. Ooos and ahhs. And really stupid "evidence" brought up. It was, frankly, disgusting.

The absence of the thing, means the thing exists. That's post-modernism.

There were other events and situations, but this was the one where the blinders came off. Being an intellectual now, is nothing like being an old school philosopher. It's a bunch of vapid people who make up debate, the proceed to support each other in that debate so that they in turn get "political" capital to have their own ridiculous "thesis," supported. And this is why they all stay in Academia, it indoctrinates and breeds itself. It's a black hole that sucks out all the truth, light, and happiness in the world.

And since they can't REALLY think about the truth, post-modernism allows them to make anything up and have it be credible. it's a sham. And a big one.

I soon planned my exit after that.
