Do what thou wilt.

-Aleister Crowley

Whether knowingly or not many prominent liberals do exactly that. Moral degenerates with no checks and no balances. The world is their oyster and with current political power, we just clean up the mess and they ignore it.

This absolutely does not shock me about Foucault. It sounds like exactly the kind of thing he would be into. He was into particularly nasty sects of BDSM, and died of AIDS.

When you're entire argument is basically perspective is everything, then everything is essentially meaningless....yeah, it is quite misguided.

I could write a lot on how the French intellectuals were often making much more narrow arguments about obscure philosophical points, but the process by which those points became fully realized frameworks is a far more complicated process to delineate, as the timeline doesn't really make a lot of sense. The linguistic origins of the arguments get lost as well, for a few reasons, though mainly I think the continental linguists that drove the post-war arguments could not think of a rebuttal to Chomsky's Syntactic Structures. That inability made for a lot of circuitous justifications about language. I was working on a series of posts trying to explain that history, but the election shelved it, though I have all the source work ready to post.

one of the top leftist thinkers of the last century

pushed this:

Foucault was a vocal proponent of consensual adult-child underage sex and pedophilia, considering them signs of liberation of both actors;[180][181][182] he argued young children could give consent

Why not assume leftists all agree? He is still recognized as one of their top thinkers.

I'm proud of you bro. This old Johnnie loves the fact that a few of us still engage in the search for truth. I think I'll take out Republic tonight and read about the Cave, and then a little Chesterton for a night cap. Deo vindice

Like the Bolsheviks, contemporary communists are courting the gay community. The electro shock therapy and quarantine comes later.

One can only hope that he is burning a little hotter than the other perverts in hell....Teddy Kennedy and his good friend John McCain.

Well, to be safe. It's like imagining Alabama will win the national championship every year. You'll usually be correct.

If I recall you had made some preliminary posts describing your intentions. If you feel so inclined to post them, I would enjoy reading them.

I admit, the above is a bit of an oversimplification, but every discussion of applying theories, often comes down to the fluidity of everything and the lack of truth. That's where I was going.

But yes, it is way more complicated than I am making it out to be.

Well, every time a random white person does something wrong the left wing attaches it to every white person who ever lived and whenever there is a random gun violence incident they attach it to every gun owner.

So, yes

I second or third the call for an official Postmodernism thread.

I don't know enough about the philosophical underpinnings, but I am extremely familiar with its growth and development within the literary criticism community and the ways it has distorted and perverted art in the second half of the 20th century.

I once had a young woman tell me that all ethics are situational.

She was a high school teacher.

Fellow English/Literature purist who fell away from it?

The dream of being a college professor that gets to read and talk about Twain and Poe and Hawthorne all day long while educating the youths and making sure their literature beliefs were well founded in the entire history of discourse on literature was but that. A dream.

Guilty

I always considered myself a Modernist when writing criticism, but when reading, I fell in love with the deliberate subversion of Pynchon and DeLillo and DFW and Chabon - the new-ness and especially the humor allowed by the postmodern perspective.

But you can cherry-pick anything and make it sound great, and when looking at the whole, you can't unsee the damage - 70 years pissed down the drain in terms of academic thought; Marxist and Feminist Critics joining hands with the Postmodernists, undermining a hundred more years of their own work. And we have nothing to show for it except 1+1=3 and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

if they were asking to be the one it is only rape in a judgemental sense.

there is no brutal detail of the act: or what else happens.
