Remember - Fed Policies Doubled the Actual Price of Cybertruck, Not the Free Market

Tesla’s Cybertruck was unveiled in 2019 with a $40k starting target.
The Cybertruck’s real-world pricing once actually available was an average of $92K per truck.
It was introduced during Trump’s first term. Large-scale fiscal stimulus and monetary accommodation 2020 - 2021 (under both the Trump and early Biden administrations) contributed to the later inflation that raised material and labor costs.
When the government tries to “fix” the economy, it is certain to fail.

Irony at its finest lol yet you support politicians who openly advocate for government control. You are a first class dumbass of epic proportions

One of the big ticket affordability items is the cost of a house and it’s commonly cited by young voters.
Setting aside interest rates, regulations have caused massive increases.
There is no reason an A/C system should be $20,000+, but thanks to leftists and the EPA here we are.
Regulations are hidden taxes.

No one will disagree here but FYI, a large part of the increase in the price was due to manufacturing hurdles. Tesla underestimated the challenges of working with a stainless steel exoskeleton, which required new factory methods to shape.
Also, the batteries were in shorter supply than when the initial price was announced, driving up costs. Basically, Tesla underestimated how fast battery production could scale.

This is also a misunderstanding of Tesla's business model. When they roll out a new vehicle they often roll out the most highly capable and most expensive version of that vehicle first. The "cheaper" option will be available later in the production life cycle.

Trump cut EV subsidies.
Dumb
Had nothing to do with the MSRP.
Cutting the subsidies might hurt sales volume, but the federal government was never writing direct subsidy checks to Tesla to lower the retail price of its vehicles.

Yeah
Not to mention the subsidy was ~7500 and wouldn't come close to explaining the gap in the first place
Maybe the bigger lesson here is don't take Elon on his word about pricing and timelines of product availability

No subsidies company has to compensate. Hence why Elon had a tizzy and said Trump was in the files.

This was the argument by the dumbest of MAGA then and it's the argument of the dumbest of MAGA now. Elon publicly supported ending all EV subsidies before Trump was even formally announced he was running again.
Sometimes it's best to just learn something, take the L and move on. You'll sound next stupid next time.

Why would he support a credit that floats his company and an incentive to buy?

True, and I give Elon credit for that... let the uber-wealthy pay a lot for toys, and use that revenue to work your way down to something for regular folks. I admired him for that approach.
The problem with the cybertruck is... it did not fit the Tesla customer base. I'm convinced this was his Mars colony buggy, really, that's what he was trying to build up. But Tesla people were not truck people... and truck people were not Tesla people (and it's useless as a work truck, as lots of truck workers rushed to point out). Then his political activity turned off his core customers, anyway... and the cyber truck became the visible representative of all that...

I think you have EV tax credits for consumers confused with regulatory credits
If a grocery store stops accepting a manufacturer's coupon, the store doesn’t have to pay anyone back or lower its prices. The customer just has to pay full price for the item.
That's EV tax credits. It has zero bearing on the MSRP

I’m speaking on the individual consumer tax credit. The tax credit went away so less people were buying them. They didn’t get hurt as bad as the rest of the industry only because they have the other vehicles but they still took a hit when the consumer tax credit went away.
Posted on 11/6/26 at 12:57 pm to DeBoar
I said that already earlier but that still has no bearing on the MSRP

These are simple, verifiable facts.

Get Elon’s nuts out your mouth. He is well passed his prime and has turned into the worlds biggest grifter
