This is what typically happens. The left upsets an imperfect status quo with increasingly bizarre demands. Each new generation of leftists attacks the previous group of leftists, sometimes murderously. Finally the conservative right starts to react (we are reactionaries, after all). Eventually the public turns to the right wing strongman as the only hope to contain the increasingly radical left.
This is how the unpopular Hitler came to power. He eventually was the only choice to contain the Marxists who were in the streets wreaking havoc on society.
