This.
The problem is that, in general, people will not act in their best long-term interests. The problem comes at the end when you have millions upon millions of impoverished elderly. We have already decided as a society that that is unacceptable.

70 is where you can get the max lifetime pay out if you live king enough under current rules
But to suggest you shouldn't be able to draw at all until 70 is pretty terrible

True. Humans will do what feels good. Not what is best.

Republicans seriously talked about giving taxpayers the option to use part of what they pay into SS, to be placed into 401 and Roths instead. You know, doing what you want with your own money.
Democrats lost their shite as they saw their slush fund being jeopardized.

PJ O'Rourke wrote in Rolling Stone back in the late 90's what every politician then and before had known. SS is on a dead end trajectory, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Sorry but it's going away and you're not getting your money back
It was a bad idea to begin with

Needs to be tied to life expectancy.

I KNOW all of 'our' congress-people/senators opted OUT of SS a very long time ago....question is...WHY ??
Because they don’t. They’re in the SS system as well.

How about you write me a check now for what I’ve contributed plus interest… it’s my $$$

How much should we reduce payouts by?
It’s just math now. The math doesn’t work. We can increase the retirement age, lower payouts or both. Doing nothing means it’s going to end on its own.
What’s your plan? (You won’t have one.)

Boomers have mostly stopped or are stopping paying into both systems due to retirement and will now draw both down. It's a real dilemma considering the size of the boomer generation.
Boomers sticking it to other generations in every single aspect of life and govt. Can't wait for them to be gone. One of the absolute worst generations to ever exist on this planet.
Downvote away boomer board.

this is his grand idea to reduce spending? increasing the age by a few years isn’t going to solve the issue, it would only put a dent in the deficit.
So what is your solution genius? Let us know.

There will be nothing left by the time the last boomer dies, which is why Rand is trying to raise the age.
This the biggest lie they push. The short fall each year will be between 200 to 500 billion. We have wasted trillions on illegals, foreign countries and democrats laundering money. Cut all that out and there will be more than enough to fund SS.

How would you solve it genius?
I'm a marginal boomer, not yet at retirement age and this would affect me. Your anti Boomer fantasies are pretty damn hollow

First thing I would do is round up all stupid people and put them in camps.
Of course that’s my first move in any and all problem situations.

As a 60 year old who has paid into this scheme since I first starting working at the age of 18 I’d like to say he can kiss my white arse.

We have had four presidents that technically qualify as Boomers.
Clinton
W
Obama
Trump
Only Obama was born after 1946.
Why are people born after 1946 responsible for SS? We followed the law and paid in. We never were in position to dictate reforms.
Posted on 11/1/25 at 12:52 pm to TurtleSS208
in 8 years SS will only be able to payout 80% of benefits, and that % will continue to decrease
