On March 13th the 7-day average of daily new cases reported reached just under 56,000. Over the past 10 days, we have seen a very slight rise to almost 58,000. This is certainly small, but given the massive drop in cases we've seen since January, and the proliferation of the vaccine, I was hoping we'd see more significant reduction in cases.

Does anyone have any theories as to what's causing this?

That may have some effect, but you'd expect whatever impact it would have to be cancelled out by the 1-2M vaccines being given a day

People in way to many areas of the country have been forced to stay locked down. When they finally start to crawl out of that hole, some will get the Covid. Their past actions have slowed herd immunity levels unlike what is seen in Florida, Texas and Georgia where freedom has been at least given a nod

BTW. All states should have already gotten to two shots for people over 70. Sadly many have not. Why has this happened? Have they given too many other groups priority?

variants which are transmitted more readily than the original strain and to a lesser extent more socializing.

Gee, I wonder why people wouldn't trust Governors like Inslee, Cuomo, Newsome and Whitmer who are directly responsible for thousands if deaths in their age brackets...

My kids middle school has been doing well since September.

180 students out last week due to Covid or quarantine.

Not very scientific I know.

Angry white incel men with assault ri--- oh wait, wrong talking point...

I couldn't care less what the new case rate is. Lockdowns nor masks work, so let it run its course and if you happen to be someone deathly afraid of contracting it, then stay your arse home.

Given the pattern this thing has had, I think what you’re seeing is a “spike” heavily blunted by 100m vaccinations.

It's pretty obvious.

The situation has rapidly improved. That lead governments to open up and people to be less cautious.

So now it's a race between people getting inoculated and people spreading the virus.

I am thinking there will be a "mini" surge of cases, but with hopefully minimal effect on hospitalizations and deaths.

Time will tell.
