Norm Macdonald as Flea

What strikes me is how many of the celebrities caricatured in that skit are dead.
Time flies when you become an old fart.

Chevy said that he thought Ford would do that stuff on purpose. He was a very athletic guy and Chevy always thought Ford was doing some inside bit.

This is hands down one of the funniest skits they ever did.
Nailed it with DC.

I watched SNL every weekend for years back in the 70's through the late 80's, I thought it was generally funny stuff, now I watch the same shows as reruns and most of the skits are not very funny, but then again, I'm not stoned like I was in the 70's and 80's
Very true. Those old SNL episodes don't hold up at all. If you go back & watch full episodes today, you quickly realize that there's maybe one or two funny sketches an episode & all the rest are not funny or pretty awkward tbh. You won't ever make it through one full hour and a half show.

Even in 1992 when Phil Hartman portrayed Bill Clinton and Dana Carvey portrayed George Bush, they made fun of both sides equally and it was all about being funny, not animosity or admiration.

Back when SNL had some talent
Phil Hartman as Clinton never got old.
Here, Hartman deftly portrays Clinton as a brilliant grifter who loves nothing more than mixing it up with regular joes.
While portraying himself as a policy wonk, Clinton’s primary political skill is using his position to fulfill his own appetite by mooching off the people.

Why knew Jay Mohr was so fit? And Rob S as KD Lang

Beat me to it.
Chris Farley was also great as portraying a gullible yet earnest everyman.

Imagine ANY SNL player doing that for former VP Biden. Who has fallen, stumbled or wandered aimlessly at least a dozen times on camera
I don’t watch SNL these days but haven’t they done that a few times?

Your detailed description was better than my post.

Truth be told, there were a few great skits over the years, but for the most part it has received way more hype than it ever deserved. You can pick out your favorite era and try to watch a few full episodes, and you will find yourself bored to tears.
I even tried to watch a few of the "greatest hits" of Sandler, Farley, Spade, etc.. and the stuff just didn't age well. It was probably funnier in high school or college because I was with a group of people, it is just the affect of laughing when other people around.

Never watch a compilation of them at one time. Spit them up or you will get bored with it very soon.

Never see it anymore because old but loved it when I was young. One bright spot - the current Weekend Update team Colin Jost and Michael Che are hilarious

I loved the one of Will Ferrell at the dinner table, and also the one where he was a cheerleader with Cheri Oteri. And him as the old prospector was hilarious.
NEVER, EVER thought Adam Sandler has been funny as an actor, he’s a very good writer though IMO. When he acts it’s just not funny to me, it never has been. Same thing with David Spade. Better as a writer. I can’t even fake laugh at him when he’s trying to be funny. I don’t know what he’s trying to do.
Chris Farley, Will Ferrell, and Dana Carvey were always hilarious to me, but I can see how people could think Chris Farley tried way too hard. Norm MacDonald’s weekend updates were brilliant.
