What scientists from the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) discovered is a way to inject boron powder into plasma, allowing for greater control, lowering greenhouse gases, and getting rid of long-term radioactive waste.

PPPL physicist Robert Lunsford was the lead author of the paper, published in Nuclear Fusion, that outlined the accomplishment.

quote:

The so-called boronization of surfaces that face the plasma is easier to accomplish with the powder, as it's something that can be done while the machine is already running. This can allow the fusion device to be an uninterrupted source of energy. "This is one way to get to a steady-state fusion machine," remarked Lunsford.

Why not just let the TicTac propulsion out?

They finally figured out how alien reactors work?

Too late. Scientists say that humanity only has 10 years to survive because of climate change. Why bother? Might as well kick it up a notch. Burn more stuff. The blacker the smoke the sweeter the fire.

I'll bet we won't. It'll be all renewable and green by then (political choice). A one million degree reaction will not be very popular I'm guessing.

Remember when hydrogen fuel cells were going to save the planet?

The Oil Conglomerate will pay off, buy out, ruin financially anything deemed a threat.

Just looking for more funding and he will get it.

You'll have them in about 10 years.

I don't believe it either! But we won't have fusion either. Probably will burn the hell out of natural gas.

Princeton "scientists."

Also, does this mean we will develop a flux capacitor and also be able to travel at Warp Speed soon??

Yeah, I think Lockheed was the most recent, several years ago. They said they'd figured out a way to shield the reaction with a heat-negating magnetism or something. They also emphasized that they needed "funding partners" so I'm guessing they were just trolling for moolah.

Their "theorem" was a drawing on a sheet of notebook paper.

I worked at PPPL on their TFTR project in 95 to 98 during their tritium experiments. They are always 10 years away from a working production fusion reactor.

You know what makes no sense? How you go from saying this:
quote:

to inject boron powder into plasma, allowing for greater control,

To this as the very next series of words:
quote:

lowering greenhouse gases,

So - injecting boron powder into plasma lowers greenhouse gasses.

Got it.

Establishing a stable, continuous fusion reaction is one thing, extracting power from it is entirely another problem that could take years to solve and then decades more before seeing it installed and powering residential areas.

Well that fricking sucks... We will only have two years to enjoy the technology before the world ends
