re: Pretty confident my dad is about to die - The Covid blues

Dude, am sorry to hear this. It saddens me deeply, having lost Pops19 in 2014...and I STILL struggle with it occasionally. Watching my hero go was the hardest moment of my life.
For others, though, I highly recommend requesting a prescription NOW from any of the online MDs for the med of YOUR choice to fight COVID. Don't know which states allow what, but in Texas I used Push Health. I asked for it as a propholactic, only interaction with the MD I had was his text "You bet." It was at my Walgreens in hours.
Mrs. 19 and I both tested positive yesterday, with symptoms (and yes- me Moderna x2, her Pfizer x2) and began our doses last night having had them on-hand for over a month.
Don't let PopsPrettyboy Floyd suffer in vain. "AVOID THIS," is his unspoken message, IMO.
Heed it.

I would do this to get him out for whatever reason you want.
Request he not be intubated anymore like someone else said.
While this is being done. Get a doctors jacket with stethoscope. Put on casual slacks and shirt and tie. Maybe a few women in the family can put on nurse uniforms as well to assist. Someone else can do a distraction at the nurses station like a fall or have an argument with the nurses really loud.
Then once he is off the vent. Grab a gurney and wheel him outta there when the distraction is happening. This would be way more difficult if he is in ICU but a regular hospital bed? Easy.
Make sure you know how to disconnect him and turn off the drips so they don’t alarm.
If my mom is dying and wants to get out of there to die at home. I’m going Mission Impossible. frick the rules.

Oh and maybe have them do a short video stating this is what they want to show a DA as evidence not to charge you for negligent homicide or some stupid arse charge.

How so?
Old fella with Covid and intubated. Giving ivermectin would probably bump his fee up. Consultation fee to talk with family about risks vs benefit of drug.
The critical care criteria has long been met. Whatever the OPs dad insurance and Medicare pay is set. Whatever the government is supplementing due to a Covid case has been set.

Do any and everything you can. Buddy of mine’s dad (68) just died in the hospital in Knoxville this morning. Had been in ICU with vid that turned to pneumonia. They had given him Remsinivier (sp). His wife had been given the mono infusion and she recovered quickly. My friend self dosed with Tractor Supply Serum and never came down with it after being exposed.

Dr gave my father in law a 5% chance to survive. They wanted us to do all that. He’s doing better but in a long term care center. He had a trache collar inserted.

Lol. You’re arguing there’s no pride involved in this dispute? Hilarious.

Renal
Very common (10% or more): Decreased CrCl (based on Cockcroft-Gault formula; up to 19%), decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR; up to 18%), increased creatinine (up to 15%)
Can’t you explain in plain English please. I know someone who was just admitted with Covid pneumonia had antibody infusion two days ago and is now prescribed Remdesivir. I’m scared of side effects. Any Docs please chime in. Thank you.

Not a doc but I can read. Remdesivir will do harm and will do no good. When his kidneys go Remdesivir is why? Most
doctors are stupid. How can they not know this by now???

Working with covid patients daily, I can tell you this...he'll be dead before you get off the elevator.
At this point in the disease process the damage is done. There is no effective treatment but time...some make it, some don't.

I agree with the first part of your quote above. The doctors suck for sending him home to die. Sure they didn't know he was going to get hit this hard. But they shuld have known it was possible and preventabe.
Then when he is brought in to the hospital the are pretty much finishing him off.
At this point it is a long shot. But his only chance is for the doctors to be forced to give him the good stuff and not the poison they prescribe.

Nice. Now people wishing death on me. Real class acts. Go frick yourselves
But with covid it is now come to posts like this. People wishing death on people, some wished death that got the vax, some not.
The reason a human soul would bitch about something they can't control, is when there is gas lighting, it is nice to vent with people-be on the same team. There is no venting anymore, there is no same team, it is just repeating the bitching to no avail. The division is multi faceted.

God bless you and your family. Be warned, 99% of people on this board will tell you that Covid is not real and will tell you that it is all make believe. Prayers sent your way.

This is simply not true, not even remotely close. You’re only seeing what you want to see or lying. Not cool! Just because folks are sick of Covid being politicized to usurp our freedoms doesn’t mean any of us feel the disease is not real.

Sending comforting thoughts your way, man. It’s so hard to lose a parent. I would demand a way for you to be able to see him. I lost my dad in August 2020 to COVID pneumonia. He was already in late stages dementia/Alzheimer’s, but it didn’t make it any easier. I’ll cherish forever the last 2-3 hours I had to sit with him, hold his hand and share memories I had of him and I fishing, going to Hog games, baseball games, stories of his grandsons…. He had no idea I was there, but it meant the world to me. Tell them to ‘figure it out’.

Very sorry to hear this. If it's any comfort from the "could anything else have been done" side of things, once severely ill COVID patients go into multi-organ failure mortality approaches 100% regardless of what we do. When his kidneys and heart failed it was game over unfortunately.
I can count on one hand the number of intubated covid patients ive cared forwho had concurrent acute kidney or heart failure who made it out of the hospital and none survived longer than 3 months to my knowledge. Most were transferred to an LTACH and died there. It's just a very sad but predictable series of events.

Those ventilators destroy lungs.
Remdesivir shuts down kidneys.
Praying for a miracle.
