Because for a consumer that is looking to throw some panels in their house it's a lot of money up front. I don't think rooftop solar makes much sense but utility scale solar is helpful. And yes it's cheaper than coal.

So, they need subsidies because it's expensive but it's actually cheaper? What a bunch of shite. Installation costs would be handled like all free market product sales if it were cheaper in the long run. Building a house is MUCH more expensive than solar panels and the govt doesn't subsidize my house being built. The subsidies for solar have doubled in the last 2 years.
It's up $14 Billion a year.
In Australia the govt attacks on cheaper coal and shift to expensive solar have doubled the energy bills of households and the public is getting pissed.

That is about as far from the truth as Biden being competent and not corrupt.

Feel free to look it up

You've proven you don't know much about anything energy related in this thread so maybe you should brush up on some things

For rooftop applications yes. Just as it would be a huge up from cost to install your own personal coal fired plant for just your house which is obviously not practical.

Utility scale solar farms are more cost effective than building new coal fired plants.

If you don't know this it's not my problem.

Just another 50 years (or so).

In all seriousness it is the future, I just hope they don't keep dumping money into the overly-expensive, unsustainable models such as Tokhamaoc.

Hey, you're right. It would also be very expensive for me to install my own personal natural gas well for just my house. I guess I'd better stop using gas now and just get subsidized solar energy and let the taxpayers take care of it.

Do whatever you want. I don't care. But I'm telling you solar doesn't need subsidies. Not for utility scale.

Only crazy people think this is a possibility

Coal and NatGas are not the same.

Do you know why that is? I will give you a hint(govt. policies). On a free market without govt. policies it is not even close. Also, the coal plant produces 24/7. You are quite the mensaman I can tell

China is building plants at a rate that makes a Taco Bell franchisee envy.. you do the math on what this means.

Spoiler: We are fricked

Yes, it would be FANTASTIC if Americans were more like the Chinese and either did not have a voice in what goes on in their backyard OR when they did were simply eliminated. It would also help matters immensely if it weren't for all these damned market forces we have to contend with in the US that Chine does not have to contend with domestically....they simply take the money from the people and do what they are going to do. That is the dream of every politician who ever asked for a vote in the United States HOWEVER they have to put up with all of these damned mouthy Americans who kind of like keeping some of their shite for themselves....but yes, China is the model of efficiency we should be aiming for...

You reply to the wrong post? That babble has nothing to do with my statement.

That's the most sensible answer and I don't even care if it has to be subsidized.

I agree, but the money isn't the big issue. The time to build the plant is the big issue. It takes what, five years or more?

They better get to building.

It does when they keep pushing to shut down old ones

There's too much risk in nuclear, and it has nothing to do with daily operation of the plants.

Visualize a nonstate actor unleashing a 9-11 style aerial assault on nuclear power plants across the land. No way even the most well-constructed nuclear power plants can wage a fair fight vs supersonic jets.

Imaging being a relatively successful 74 year old man like VOR and supporting this. Pathetic!
