After Trump left the White House, DeSantis was overwhelmingly the most beloved Republican Governor with rank and file Red State voters.

Now, DeSantis limps out of Iowa battling Nikki Haley for sloppy seconds.

When DeSantis officially announced, I repeatedly asked what exactly Christina Pushaw — a John McCain acolyte and a neocon political hack — brought to Team DeSantis?

Can anyone explain what she offered beyond rank incompetence?

At this point, we have to consider the possibility that the GOP establishment planted moles in the inner circle of DeSantis’ campaign to give him advice on messaging & strategizing that was a deliberate effort to sabotage the DeSantis campaign and undermine his future political prospects on the national stage.

In any event, the abject failure of DeSantis’ campaign to gain any traction in Iowa seems to be Pushaw’s primary legacy since Pushaw — as the media liason in the DeSantis campaign — was the one constant in the DeSantis campaign.

Desantis has done less with more than any political candidate ever.

The man actually did all the things others talk about and never do, yet he rarely talked about those things.

He was wishy washy, he was uncertain of himself, he tried to run the race of an incumbent. It was just awful. So awful he cant run again and fix it in four years.

a “man” that feels the need to wear 6” heels to make himself look taller certainly wouldn’t be uncertain of himself would he?

He wasn’t Ron. To make things worse, he got out-Ronned by Vivek. I know this triggers tf out of his supporters, but his campaign felt like he was taking advice from old guard GOP types.

Its time to rally around Trump.

DeSantis waited too long to try and strike back at Trump. Trump spent months before DeSantis' announcement savaging him, branding him and giving him a pet name(s) like DeSantis or DeSanctimonious. DeSantis never really struck back. Had he gone hard and heavy on Trump he might have fared better. Trump would still have an upper hand because his core supporters worship him. But he could have gotten Trump off his game after the first time he called him DeSanctus.

To hammer Trump, you have to hammer Trump. Does not matter, you hammer him. He calls you a name, you make him pay even if it's a little. Make Trump look like the a-hole.....if you really are interested in giving it a good run. DeSantis even had the money behind him. Oh, but if I hit back that will make Trump mad and he may call me more names....

Note to Ron.....he called you names anyway.

It seems like he sold out . He was set up perfectly to finish out his term as Governor and then have 2 years to campaign for president and be by far the most popular candidate. It’s crazy that he actually thought he could beat the guy that got him were he is today .

I actually think Desantis did very good in Iowa.

Nationally, I think he started falling pretty significantly to haley over the last 2-e weeks. But, that didn't happen in Iowa because he worked so hard there.

She's going to hammer him in NH.

I think it was a pretty weak campaign

But I think the Trump firsters are right - the GOP electorate had been largely converted to Trump and DeSantis always had a near-insurmountable task. You'd see it on this board a lot, Trump would do something appalling/stupid, and people would pop up and talk about how they wish he wouldn't do it and how enough is eventually going to be enough, but then they go right back to Trump. He doesn't even have to win them back, that loyalty is too entrenched.

The GOP will be a GOPe/Haley and a MAGA/Trump party for the time being. There's not really any place for traditional conservatives unless you can cram yourself into one of those boxes. Trump has been very successful converting both GOPe and former conservatives to his populist/personality-driven movement. There just won't be a path forward for the time being.

Exactly. In other words, he was everything he wasn’t as Florida’s Governor.

Someone put DeSantis on a leash. Who was it?

Ron used poor judgement and got duped by the Never Trumpers that if he would run, Trump would not be able to run.

He tried to hide this icognito connection, and I don't believe DeSantis necessarily shares their view or policies, but the connection was made.

If Ron seriously wanted to run, he should have went directly to Trump and had a sit down.

Trump put him on the leash.

He couldn't attack Trump or he'd alienate a group of people that would never forgive him for insulting their hero. He couldn't go along with Trump peaceably without looking weak.

That was the situation from the jump.

You guys didn’t even pay attention to him. He was saying the same things he says in Florida.

This is hilarious.

Democrats indicting Trump. The race was over at that point and the polling data supports that theory.

Don’t chalk up to cunning what can probably be attributed to stupidity.

McCain campaign people have been fricking godawful for years while trying to blame everyone but themselves for the issues.

Steve Schmidt comes to mind, as he has been blaming Palin for the failure of the McCain campaign in 2008 when Palin’s presence kept the base from just not showing up at all.

The only thing we’ve learned from this election cycle is the GOP electorate as a whole is no more informed or intelligent than your average leftist. I don’t include you in this group, but many actively want to be gaslit in the same way democrat voters seek out Twitter and other spaces for an echo chamber.

To Trump’s credit, he is an absolute master at manipulating these people.

Voters in Iowa are still pissed that Florida beat Iowa 30-3 back in 2017.

Failure and possibly the self-torpedoed prospects of his future.

Ron should have either run a campaign like Vivek or just focused solely on FL like he said he was going to, and made a basically uncontested run in '28.

Started off well, but went pretty quickly into a death spiral.

My point is, if you are determined to run, run. His greatest mistake was telegraphing a run for 6 months before he actually did it.
