This guy is an absolute idiot.

quote:I agree that acknowledgement isn't the same as agreement. However, I don't see what Paul is saying in Rom. 13 as mere acknowledgement, but teaching the Church to be submissive to governing authorities because "he is God's servant for your good". That is why he says that the magistrate "does not bear the sword in vain", but he is "an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer".
You should not have to pit Paul against Jesus but I would not interpret anything he says in Romans 13 as to endorsing or approving the death penalty. I've always read that as Paul warning the followers that the Romans hold temporal power and will not hesitate to use the sword....so be mindful
Acknowledging is nt the same as agreement.
Again, I don't understand Paul's comments as a mere warning to watch out for the unjust sword of the Empire, but an encouragement that civil justice is for their good, and an application of God's wrath and punishment on wrongdoing. Paul ties civil justice directly back to God's wrath against evil, so it's not just commentary about how evil the Roman empire is.
In addition, in Acts 25, Paul admits that if he has done anything worthy of the death penalty, he wouldn't fight it. The implication is that he understood that some things deserve the death penalty.

being for the death penalty is not aligned with the Church's teachings.
Romans 13:1-4, “Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2 Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. 3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same; 4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil.”
Acts 25:10-11, “But Paul said, “I am standing before Caesar’s tribunal, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you also very well know. 11 “If, then, I am a wrongdoer and have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die; but if none of those things is true of which these men accuse me, no one can hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar.”

Yeah, no doubt he was calling out the hypocrisy of human smugglers and not the US government enforcing immigration law.

What the Pope says means absolutely nothing to me!

The illegal immigrants are being treated inhumane by the sex traffickers, unscrupulous business owners paying them under the table, and others that benefit from slave labor.

These two topics are totally unrelated.

inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States
They get three hots and a cot, healthcare, clean sheets, and even exercise and entertainment while in custody. Then, they get a free plane ticket home. If they return home on their own, we give them $1000. That's better treatment than we give our own homeless military veterans.
With all due respect, this pope can piss up a rope.

Both topics he compared to abortion are unrelated. Why he is an absolute idiot for even trying it.

What does Leo think about all of the altar boys who are mistreated?

I have no inherent problem with Catholicism. It’s the current pope. I’m not alone either. Many outspoken Catholics are either outwardly lambasting the comments, or running circles in their head to justify. This was before mentioning the pope’s participation in that pagan climate change ritual.

Hmmm? To say Martin Luther was right is to say Jesus was wrong

Catholic doctrine is to protect and preserve the sanctity of life. It is not against capital punishment. Research St Pope John Paul II comments on it. Sometime capital punishment is necessary to preserve the sanctity of life.

Nobody's bashing Catholics. Just the absolute nonsense uttered by the pope.
