He was a known quantity. I realize you're having a difficult time comprehending what I'm saying but you really need to try harder.

You think this board didn't discuss McCarthy long before he became speaker? How about when this story came out in 2017...
quote:

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent...

Everyone on this board, including LSURussian knew who McCarthy was.

As much as you'll protest it, that's really not ideal for electing the person who is second in the succession line to be POTUS.

Ha! I’d rather a random TD poster be second to the Presidency than McCarthy.

I only have so many $2 bills. if LSURussian doesn't claim his, then I'll make the same offer to you.

Thing is, Mike Johnson is no more or less of an unknown to the average voter than anyone else. The average voter might be aware of Nancy Pelosi, or maybe that back in the old days Newt was the Speaker. To try to make it a talking point that he is a relative unknown, and that therefore causes trepidation amongst the voters, is simply spinning for the marxist democrats.

Mike Johnson's Family and Friends Stunned to Learn He's a Congressman

quote:

BENTON, LA — On the heels of Louisiana Representative Mike Johnson's election as Speaker of the House, family and close friends of the new speaker were shocked and amazed to learn that Mike Johnson is a congressman.

"Speaker of the House?! I just assumed he worked at Best Buy or something," said Johnson's close friend Bill Watts. "When I turned on the television today and saw him holding up the gavel on the House floor, I was totally stunned. A congressman? Are you sure?"

After a tumultuous several weeks, the Republican majority in the House of Representatives finally came together to unanimously elect Johnson. "We were running out of guys to nominate," said Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie. "Eventually, as a joke, somebody grabbed who we thought was just one of the IT guys in the hallway. Turns out his name is Mike Johnson and he's been serving in Congress since 2016. Blew all of our minds, really."
