Philadelphia's Salute to Independence Semiquincentennial Parade has been canceled due to extreme heat in the weather forecast, organizers told vendors and participants early Friday morning.

The parade was set to take place Friday in Old City.

Temperatures are set to exceed 100 degrees and feel even hotter due to humidity as the region enters Day 5 of a heat wave. On Thursday, July 2, the city tied its record high temperature of 103 degrees.

Organizers told vendors their first responsibility was the safety of the participants and guests. The production company running the parade was reaching out to participants individually to inform them of the cancellation.

One representative told CBS News Philadelphia organizers tried to find a solution that would allow the event to be held safely, but heat-related incidents, including Thursday's Union Pacific Big Boy event in Berks County, contributed to the decision to cancel.

Yea, I heard the founders considered canceling the revolution because it was a little warm in 1776.

Two birds with one stone for the commies. Proclaim climate change and kill patriotism.

Or those times they gave up when it was too cold at Valley Forge and Morristown…

My son has been working up there all week and he’s outside a lot. Says it’s 102° and doesn’t feel shite.

He says 89° down here is a lot more brutal.

Fricking pansy arse Yankees.

2-3 layers of wool clothes. Over the knee stockings. Wool knickers. No AC. How did they ever manage to sign their names?

We are so soft as a country - it’s sad - summer is hot - this isn’t unusual or new.

It's funny, Philly doesn't have a problem holding their annual new year's parade though that often has temps well below freezing at 20 or below with 10,000+ actual participants in the parade which lasts about 10 HOURS (one of the longest parades in the U.S.). Do the morons in Philly know that the cold causes 9x more deaths than heat and is much more dangerous?

Except they didn't say "the city tied the Highest temp for July 2nd." They said the city tied it's record temp on July 2nd. To make it more scary and alarming. You, of course, know this.

I guess Phillies won’t be playing ball, kids in the streets playing or million people running around the streets or driving adding heat on the roads
