Universal healthcare will bankrupt the country.

Most medical innovation comes from us. Most new drug innovation comes from us. There is a huge cost associated with having the best of everything and being on the cutting edge.

We will need tort reform. You can't have these doctors/hospitals getting there asses sued off for outrageous sums. Malpractice insurance needs to be less of a cost burden. Unfortunately the Democratic Party will never go for tort reform so this will never happen.

Next...just go to your local McDonalds. Sit and watch for three or four hours. Tell me what you see. Americans, as a whole, are an unhealthy group. There is a correlation between out of shape people living unhealthy lifestyles and going to the doctor more. This is another increase to cost.

If you "wizards of smart" think universal healthcare can work then take one of the states like California and try it...just in that state. Don't force feed your bullshat down all 50 states at one time. You need to PROVE IT WILL WORK here first. I am willing to listen/watch and see if it will lower cost. Common sense tells me it won't.

Because why would I want a monopoly on something as important as the health coverage for my family, run by bureaucrats that have almost no knowledge or expertise in the field? Why in the hell would we want to take that away from companies that, while want to make a profit, also face competition and are forced to answer to customers and keep prices in check? Because of a few people that went their whole lives and didn't carry insurance until they got sick and decided they needed it?

US medicine was the envy if the world, fairly nonbureaucratic and affordable for just about everyone into the mid 60s.

Then...

You get Medicare and Medicaid, the estimated future costs of which were exponentially wrong.

During that same period, bureaucracy, red tape and costs all explode.

Replay same scenario with the establishment and expansion of the federal guaranteed student loan program and costs to attend college.

The more government is involved, the lower the quality, the more difficult and complex to access and comply, and the higher the cost.

PLUS, do you really want your government to have unfettered access to your medical records?

Meh. You framed it one way for a reason, IMHO.

If you really weren't taking any sides, you would have asked for arguments for and against.

Universal healthcare is the only goal of everyone with any policy. Universal healthcare means everyone has healthcare. Whether they’ve bought it privately or had it provided by a single payer system, the goal is everyone having it.

I don’t favor single payer. I’d like to see a public option added to the existing system, without subsidies for private care. You can afford private care, or you get a publicly funded plan. I’m not going to get into the specifics of the plan I’d implement as emperor at 11:22 on a Sunday night.
