Gee, she’s such a great communicator with a strong command of the English language. Makes no sense that people wouldn’t line up to hear her original ideas on the matter.

Damn it Siri

Yet another stupid idea that sucks money from the young and gives it to the old.

Yeah these kids are too busy trying to work to keep food on their own tables. Shame on them.

Reforming Medicare for seniors was a major piece of Kamala's platform. Including ending estate recovery by Medicare.

You can dislike her. You can disagree with the feasibility of her plans. The plan was dependent on raising international taxes and politicians from both parties would have had a stroke considering the various tax shelters they all use. But it was very much part of her platform and talked about quite often.

You likely mean Medicaid. Medicare is only for acute after discharge from hospital or the first several months of entry into Nursing Home. Medicaid kicks in after that. They don't kick a living spouse out of the house to get their money back but they can make you use down all of your tangible assets short of a little spending money before they start making your monthly nursing home costs.

Clearly you don't know the game. As parents age you transfer the assets out of their names to Irrevocable Trusts / Medicaid Asset Protection Trusts (MAPTs). FYI there's a 5 year look back period and they must give up direct ownership and management of the assets.

Ok, so it becomes medical necessary. Again, we must Government offer a solution for that?

There is already a government solution, which I am in favor of getting rid of.

But if we have it and we pay for it, it's not too much to ask that it works correctly and efficiently.

This is true.

Meanwhile, third world shitbags are pretending to take care of their parents for hundreds of thousands per year...

You are right. My bad.

Not saying the plan would have worked, but it was brought up.

There is no Medicare Estate Recovery. Estate Recovery is a part of Medicaid.

yep. It sucks. And some elderly will get screwed. But people need to take care of their own and stop looking to government daddy.

How is this a political problem?

Nursing homes collect medicaid and most drug their residents with psychotropics and neglect their care...that's a problem.

There use to be a time when families took care of families. How sad that a Mom or Dad breaks their backs to work and support children to make sure they are always cared and covered until adulthood, and sometimes pass that, and when Mom and Dad become a burden to their busy lifestyle, they must be placed somewhere.

Boomers invented the $300 a month scary go there to die nursing home for their parents and now that it’s their turn to go the nursing home it has to have gold and fountains everywhere and their millennial kids have to pay the 30k a month

I knew my mother's drug profile by heart. We visited enough to notice any neglect. Only neglect we noticed was they would lose her Velcro shoes every couple of weeks.

Then you found one of the few nursing homes that operate as they should.

Been through this recently with both parents. Nursing home was over $8000 a month and it was far from the most expensive one. We were real fortunate that they had the resources and their illnesses didn't last long enough to exhaust them. I know someone now whose mother has been in a nursing home four four years and keeps ticking along. She had a fair amount of assets but they've spent it all on her care and there's nothing left except the house, which is exempt as long as she's still alive. Medicaid covers her expenses now. When she dies the state will put a lien on her house to recover what it can and that will be that.

I don't know what the solution is but the status quo is not sustainable.
