Perfect excuse to jack up the price. There’s a .50 difference between gas stations within 1/10 of a mile of each other around here.

Agreed...
Costco Is Now Rationing Motor Oil Because the Global Shortage Is Getting Real
snips:

A Kirkland Signature oil change has nearly doubled in price, but that's not the most concerning change to how Costco's selling lubricants these days.
In the background, though, this is more than a matter of simple economics. Over the years, oil chemistries have gotten more sophisticated to cope with the stresses of tinier engines pushing bigger boost while also mitigating their environmental impact. That’s led to more rigorous testing and higher standards, including a set of rules by the American Petroleum Institute that took effect at the start of the decade.

The 1960s-70s are back baby. Pointless war in a country we shouldn’t be in, gas prices high and shortages. Bell bottoms back in style. Crooked President in office.

Have another downvote.

Chevron and other companies that drill and produce oil don’t set prices as the pump. Anyone with an IQ above 70 knows this by now after the past 10-15 years.

That kind of shite has always been the case. There’s a Shell station amongst River Oaks in Houston that has been 75 cents to a buck per gallon more than others just several blocks down for as long as I can remember.

Don’t worry you will be able to vote for the gay mayor and the mentally challenged bartender before you know it then you get all the cultural enrichment you can stand!

Amazing people defend this stuff and will downvote anything that remotely makes the president look bad

I never claimed they did set the price lol I said it’s an excuse to jack up the price that’s already high.

It's basic marketing. Gas stations on routes into town (especially in places like Houston, Baton Rouge, etc.) will always be higher. You probably didn't have time to fill up on the way home, so you need to fill up on the way into work, and you pay more for it.
Otherwise, you'd just have gone to the station that was 50 cents lower. Or you're reading a price that is CASH, whereas the real apples to apples comparison would be the debit price that is probably 20 cents higher, which is what most gas stations do. Murphy, Sam's, Costco, etc. do not do this, "independent" stations love to do it.

Wanna know who’s happy about it?
Putin
High oil prices are like nectar from the gods for Russia

What a game. They raise the price on gas at the pump that they have already purchased days ago in anticipation of prices going up.
But, boy oh boy!! When the oil price drops, it is weeks before we see lower pump prices.
That is the game POTUS Trump is ending. It will not be long and .......
It WILL Be GLORIOUS!!

Yeah at some point the pressure breaks the damn. We might not even be able to survive current prices indefinitely. If gas goes up another dollar a gallon then the upper middle people start tightening the purse strings. Oil prices continuing to go up will eventually have negative consequences. Our economy is too reliant on consumption for it not to have downstream consequences.

At what fuel price point does it become a net loss for some low earners to get in the car and drive to work.
People might stop driving to reduce demand but at some point we enter a increase wages / increase prices doom loop.

Commuting ppl will seek jobs elsewhere for lower wages. Already seen it happen. 30-45 min drives are unsustainable for the working class employees.
