People might stop driving to reduce demand but at some point we enter a increase wages / increase prices doom loop.

Yeah this is going to get people either demanding to go back to remote work. Or at least going back down to say 2 or 3 days in office instead of 4 or 5 days. I know for the Company I work for, earlier this year we went back to 2 days in office. Previously we were at 3 days in office.
People are going to demand remote work or they will be demanding significant raises to account for the higher gas prices and wear and tear on their vehicles.
People who live 45 minutes to 1 hour away from their work are really in trouble. Many will probably start looking for jobs closer to home.
I could easily see a blue collar worker, who works 45 minute to an hour away, taking a job that pays slightly less but is remote or only 10 or 15 minutes away.
It's definitely going to come up for a lot of companies as we reach the end of the fiscal year for many companies and it's around that time that wage increases are discussed.

Over half this country is barely getting by now. It's easily over 50% of Americans who don't have enough money to cover an unexpected $1,000 expense. Many are maxing out credit cards.
An increase in gas prices to even $5.50/gallon will push a lot of people over the edge, because of the increases in general cost of living, and you will start seeing massive increases in foreclosures, car repossessions, credit card debt and even bankruptcy.

How is a blue collar guy going to remotely fit a pipe or lay a brick?
