Obamacare Enrollment Falls by Nearly 3 Million in One Year

Some decent news, in my view. This is happening at the same time that the uninsured rate has not increased, meaning these 3 million enrollees were either:
1) able to get different insurance (through work or private insurance)
2) already had other insurance and were taking advantage of juiced subsidies ther have now expired
3) were outright fraudulent enrollments
Regardless, this is good news and Should yield savings

Enrollment in Affordable Care Act health plans fell by roughly 3 million people this February compared to the same month last year, according to new data from the Department of Health and Human Services. Enrollment declined from 22.1 million people in 2025 to 19.2 million people this year, a drop of 13%.
The HHS report, which was released on Friday, attributed the decrease to the Trump administration’s crackdown on “improper, phantom, or fraudulent” registrations that had swelled enrollment figures under the Biden administration

Well yeah
If by providing “coverage” it may have succeeded but those people with a $500
Premium and $8,000 deductible
That really didn’t help anyone out
If you didn’t qualify for a free subsidy you were getting raped in out of pocket costs
Anyone would tell you that
Like yeah sure you had coverage but if you could barely afford the premium you sure as shite can’t afford the almost 5 digit deductible. What good does that really do anybody ?

Unless your socially redeeming value as a human is negative (in which case you get "free" coverage), obamacare policies are expensive and terrible.

Yea I did not enroll this year. Self employed so its my only real option.
My monthly premium for the family went from $1200 a month to $2500 a month when congress let the subsidies expire.
Obamacare has been a disaster. But it sure would have been nice if they could have done something to fix it (ideally just get rid of it) or at least put something in place to give people better options in the interim.
Your 3 choices are omitting a real outcome for a lot of the middle class.

Those were temporary Covid subsidies.
What were you paying before Covid?

Pre Covid we were able to get insurance through my wife's work. It depended on the year which was cheaper. Usually Obamacare was cheaper, but the coverage/deductibles were horrible. Most years we were having kids/trying to get pregnant so we just paid the higher premiums for better coverage/lower deductibles.
During Covid we took advantage of low interest rates/housing prices and bought some land.
Since then we have opened a business for her so she is also self employed. So now we pretty much are forced to use Obamacare.

The way you describe your current situation, I don’t think subsides were originally meant for people in your family’s position
Obama and the dems didn’t think so when they passed the law, which is why you only benefited from subsidies starting in 2021 and not 2013-2021
