The first picture of Obama didn't have him in front of a wall of ivy. It was a woodpile. For some reason he didn't like it, so the painter just painted over it with a wall of ivy.
The one of Michael make him look too much like a girl. *Just my opinion.*

Obama’s is way too kitschy but at least it’s decent art and pushes the boundaries.

Notice it's the Obamas classily presenting the portraits to George and Laura Bush. I'm imagining Trump was too busy for Obama's though.

These will hang in the National Archive, not the White House. The ones that will hang in the White House will be more formal and traditional.

All said, the Obamas are two of the most profound individuals in this era. As such, the psychological dynamics as relating to the physical characteristics of their human form...is largely lost in the 'fluff'. The Artists should have viewed a Rembrandt, or other Master portrait artist to envision the potential that good portraiture can relate.
Maybe it was their artistic intent to create a (metaphorical) controversial image, wherein the Subject is lost. If that is so...then the Work is a success.
Like the Obama's tenure...so much potential...so much lost. Disappointing. IMO. Of course - reality and art being subjective - I acquiesce to the moral axiom of lending mutual respect. To each their own.
