But there is a threat of them pulling the rug out from under us like Diego Garcia. Why should we spend money and manpower protecting it when the country who supposedly controls it does nothing of the sort?

Why spend more money developing another's property? We've already been funding Europe's defense for 70 years.

Rare earths aren't rare. They're byproducts of other mining operations. Their rarity is in that they're very energy intensive and environmentally toxic to refine. That's why we get them from China. It isn't that we don't have them in the ground ourselves.
Getting them ourselves from a virtually uninhabited territory we own doesn't make more sense than letting a communist country and political enemy control the worldwide production of critical minerals?
I feel like people don't understand that sovereignty is only gained through self-reliance. If a foreign power can sink your country on a whim due to your reliance on them, you are not a sovereign nation. You are a vassal.
We're the most powerful country the world has ever seen, but people want us to play second fiddle to communists for reasons I can't fathom.

Yeah... so let's build on foreign land and protect the area.... for nothing in return..........

Trump equates allies as akin to vassals. He asks not for cooperation per se, but for capitulation.

In case some folks haven't figured it out yet. Trump is a master negotiator and uses one hand to distract and the another to act. He likes to set up scenarios where both sides can claim victory.
I personally enjoy watching him work. He never looses.

No. He is not a master negotiator. He is a master promoter though. His deals tend to be not so good for others . Hell before government, his deals tended to not be so good for himself other than Trump Tower back in the late 70s

Do the men working at that remote military base in Greenland have any female companionship?

Kind of.
They also have deposits “large quantities lumped together), which is not something that we have outside of one location at Mountain Pass (California).
Australia has a large spot that is promising, IF their government doesn’t restrict them.
Myanmar too (they lack the tech and infrastructure though).
As you can see, there are a lot of moving parts to this.

Those three words will fund our military presence in Greenland and also cut nice royalty checks to the Greenlanders and accepting our presence. It's a win-win.

Some of you keep repeating this while you clearly have a limited understanding of the topic.

The reasons it's better if we just own it is because we won't have to worry about another country making deals with our adversaries. Things are changing. We are no longer in the "Cold War". Maybe a different one, but not the one Reagan fought.

Two reasons. Resources and to prevent jimmy carter 2.0 from giving away our bases there.

How is the protection of America not America first? From where do you retards come?

It's more to defend the US from subs, etc coming from that area.
