Again, I'm willing to put real money down this does not happen.

Absolutely meaningless unless passed by the Senate and signed by POTUS.

The fact that someone was able to pick up the pieces does not make Gaetz’s attention whoring a good strategy.

The GOP gained nothing from this.

They'll never understand this, b/c they want virtue signaling, and the people trying to point this out won't resort to creating another layer of a conspiracy to defend themselves.

I'm talking 12 bills passed in both chambers and signed by POTUS.

I'm not betting. (I hardly ever bet.)

I'm just happy the Overton window has moved from guaranteed CRs to single subject appropriation bills.

I think we can all agree the outcome looks good...but if Johnson was "The Plan" then why wasn't he in line right off the bat?

Plans don't have to have every single step outlined as long as they have a good general end goal.

I mean, if an Army unit has been tasked with taking a hill and they deign their plan in advance, there's a damned good chance, nay, a near certainty, that the plan will run into road blocks ranging from entirely unanticipated to thought it might happen. As long as, at the end of the fight, the Army unit has taken the hill and met its objectives, no one says, "yeah, but the plan didn't account for.........."

Either way, he's a shite ton better than McCarthy so why try and make a fight here?

If I may. Because until squishy middle moderate republicans recognize that their only way forward is to oppose the marxist democrat agenda at every single opportunity, republicans and conservatives alike might as well switch parties or resign.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth among supposed republicans, ostensibly conservatives, was sickening. Gaetz finally does something to further the conservative cause in the legislature, and supposed conservatives are dogging his arse mercilessly.

The people shitting on Gaetz are the problem with the republican party, regardless of the outcome. Until those people get their shite together and realize we at war for the very soul and existence of this country, we cannot win this war.

The question is if this has occurred. That's the point of the bet.

so Speaker Johnson will be on the GangOf8 that was designed to usurp (or if a Democrat protect) the executive branch to cover their swampy sleazy stuff...

Belief in the federal government afflicts both the Right and Left. Just look at Covid response, which to this day is defended by a clear majority of Republicans.

I would disagree. Most republicans realize that it was a cluster frick. Most have gotten over the errors as nobody had been through something like this before. In short, no one knew what to do.

Ask Kevin if it was just "Gaetz’s attention whoring". Silly establishment thing to say.

Probably because your OP specifically mentions Mike Johnson and you're claiming this was the plan all along.

The fact that Gaetz (and hopefully others) want to reform spending bills wasn't exactly insider knowledge.

They look really bad to moderates with major elections in about 12 months.

I would count the fact that it's even being almost reasonably discussed as an "occurrence."

I get that you are, for whatever reason, so terribly vested in this being all so bad (for who, I'm not sure) or at best a "nothingburger," though.

Again, exactly.

If it's not about the people, then why are so many Patriots spiking the football this afternoon?

If it's really about spending, then why not discuss the chances of this actually changing any spending practices.

We went though multiple options before his name even came up.

When we went from Scalise (McCarthy ally)to Jim Jordan (most conservative rep) and then Emmer (moderate) and McCarthy's name kept coming up and garnering votes stifling the votes of the others running, they figured out who was trying to game it. McCarthy himself. And then he makes a play to be Speaker again with Jordan as Deputy Speaker (whatever that is) everybody knew what the deal was.
