Some are overpaid, others underpaid.
Figure out which ones are actually making a difference and pay them. Those who arent doing shite, will stay lowly paid.
Until you break the unions stranglehold, and stop paying scale wages and learn how to reward merit, people will balk at this because our education outcomes are shite compared to the money spent.

Begin implementing AI teachers for troubled youths. That’s something that would prevent me from being a teacher no matter how much the pay is.

Troubled youths don't pay attention to shite anyway. What's the difference? You think adaptive instruction three levels below grade level will all of a sudden get Jaxxsyn to stop watching sliding techniques on YouTube?

That’s the whole idea. Don’t expose teachers to the dangers of being around these failures. There’s no use at all. It’s a complete waste of these teachers careers.

But schools get money for troubled yoots being "in the seat." Do you see the incentive mismatch that will cause over reporting of kids "in school" that admins will chase? Like declaring someone decapitated in a motorcycle accident that tested positive for COVID a COVID death for the extra reimbursement?

Schools and parents never consider the strings of taking federal money for SPED kids of all stripes. Oh, the school gets an extra $5k a year for a SPED kid, but then has to hire a paraprofessional for every three of them? But they "won" money, right? And then you have to have special curriculum coordinators for every so many of these SPED kids, etc. But you got that $5k per head. Yay?
There are entire divisions in some school districts dedicated to federal funding.
There is one program that seeks out migrant children to ensure they are enrolled in school and receive certain stipends to supply school supplies and uniforms for those children while native children do not receive those benefits. Definitely screwed up that non native students get extras that regular children do not receive.
If I were in congress, I would cut that program.

Take the human element out of it so they can’t lie.

It is shocking how people not only got it wrong, they got it BACKWARDS!!!
The amendment would not rob the retirement fund, it would have added to the fund. That would result in annual savings of hundreds of millions in interest because the system would have less debt.

Probably something all politicians should do as well, from President all the way down to Mayor of Bawcomeville.

And the system would go right back into debt at no time flat.

How many hours per year do they work
Close to 1800-2000 hours a year but also includes extremely high stress levels

Nope. They screw off during their free time at work, so they have to work at home.

My brother and his wife are educators with a little over 25 years in the system. My brother got his masters over summers and holidays in some accelerated program about 5 years ago and has gotten 2 promotions in management since then. He told me that if he teaches 2 more years and then he and his wife retire.
They will receive 10k a month plus healthcare for life.
They will be 49 or 50 when they retire.
When he first started teaching, and told me what he made. I remember thinking, I couldn’t live on that. He should find a better job.
Now I wish I’d had the foresight to look ahead 25 years
Yep. Going into education is a retire quick scam. They deserve nothing more from taxpayers until this is fixed.

And then they can go teach in a private school or come up with a brand new career path at the ripe old age of 50. Salary and benefits are negligible since they have lifetime benefits and a sweet retirement package.
Teachers salaries aren’t great, but the benefits are INCREDIBLE…let’s not talk about all that, though.
They hate it when you bring up the benefits in these conversations because they can't argue with it. Their benefits turn their sob stories into jokes. No one else can retire with a lifetime retirement plan in their 50s, all while starting a new career and gaining a second retirement. Get over yourselves.

Never voting to raise taxes for anything.
They need to fix their budget and wasteful spending.

1. How would you know?
2. Define “free time.”
I stated what any legitimate teacher puts in time wise.
I also stated that it still equates to a very good hourly wage.
I stand by that.
Lastly, an assistant football coach gets paid about 4-5k on the low end. During the season, their “work weeks” will often exceed 80 hours (or more). Throw in conditioning and summer workouts and you are up 1000+ “additional” hours worked.
There is a reason that there is a major shortage of staff based high school coaches.
TLDR
Teachers get a very good hourly wage.
Many coaches do not (for coaching).

My wife has worked in a classroom, in administration, and for the State. She's the first to tell you how low-info teachers are.
This is fear-mongering plain and simple. The state does very few things well, but managing the teacher retirement system has been one of them.
Think of it this way: if your portfolio performed well, but expenses went up, would you withdraw from your portfolio or just let it keep growing and live on the moneyyou had comingin every month?

cut out some of the ridiculous administrative expenses these school districts have.
This is a huge issue as well. School board systems are definitely over staffed and overpaid.
Does anyone think that our increase in ranking directly correlates to the increase in Charter Schools?
