He retired this July. I don't recall slaves getting a choice to retire at age 34 with over $59 million dollars earned.
BTW, here is an interesting section from a NYT piece when he retired earlier this summer:
What a crock. They had everyone get down and Bennett RAN AWAY. Then he was caught and they handcuffed him and kept him there while they googled him. If he had sat his arse down like EVERYONE ELSE, he would have been left alone that much quicker.
It wasn't some life or death thing but I guess we couldn't expect a factual story from the NYT.

His bio says he signed out of college as an undrafted free agent. So he sold himself into slavery I guess by turning down an opportunity to join the real world?
