How would the US taking over Greenland NOT boost NATO's power in a huge way? The US military machine is a bit contributing factor to NATO's legitimacy.

We already have an airbase on Greenland. This “we need it for security” is just a lie to grab resources.

I didn't want Greenland but now that you offer to end NATO I am all for it.

Tell me the UN will leave the US if we invade Greenland and I might need to seek medical help for the erection lasting more than 4 hours.

And no, I don't really want NATO to end. I want NATO to actually spend the agreed upon amount of GDP in defense spending which they will NEVER do as long as they have the US to back them.

The way out would be for there to be a referendum in Greenland simply asking the people do you want to remain part of Denmark, become a US State like Alaska or become an Independent Country?

I do not think the majority of people would vote for that, at least not according to any surveys I have seen.

So we should just invade it in that case? Invade a country that has never done us harm and does not threaten us?

Why are they fantasizing about the US attacking Greenland?

The US isn’t attacking a peaceful, friendly country

Yep, ain't gonna happen that way. More likely a promise to the locals of shiny things.

Y'know - I didn't even consider Greenland as a territory that I even wanted to entertain as a US protectorate until I was made aware that if the US takes Greenland it will essentially and effectively end NATO. Now I MUST have it!

Are there any other methods by which we can end NATO? Surely this isn't the only way!

Denmark's Mette Frederiksen said "everything would stop" in the event of a US attack on another NATO country.

Was she being serious? Does she really think we give enough of a shite about Greenland to "attack" another NATO country over it?

Do you want to build a strawmaaaaaaaan?

Let’s be real, NATO is the US. It’s a point of leverage in the European countries for the US. Denmark doesn’t have have any ability to shape NATO besides leaving it which they won’t do, long term at least.

The negative is we lose a prolonged war against a combined Russia and China. They would simply out manufacture us. There’s a reason we made these alliances in the first place.

If they haven’t read about it from an anonymous grifter Xitter account then they aren’t going to know anything about this.

I bet that without googling people will guess that the US spends a ton more on NATO than we actually do.

The actual amount we spend on NATO is n the range of 500 million dollars.

New NFL stadiums are being built for 3 billion - six times that amount.

LINK

The huge trillion dollar numbers tossed around are a countries overall spending on defense including things like veterans, VA hopitals, running West Point and Annapolls, etc, We also have a ton of shite in Asia, we do our outer space stuff in our "Space Force" (expensive!), etc. ALL that is part of this big budget not just NATO.

On the NATO organization itself we don't spend that much and we cut back vastly on troops and bases in Europe, we are down from over 400,000 to about 65,000 now. All the troops in Europe today would fir into Tiger Stadium.

These people are crying over nothing. The US isn't going to attack either Greenland or Denmark. To suggest otherwise is fricking stupid.

NATO and EU....... frick them trolls and leeches.

They do not want reciprocal trade terms or free trade, but want us to continue protecting them while they spend their monies on social programs.
