The Latter Day Saints (Mormons) literally wrote the book on emergency planning and survival.

LINK

Anyone wanting to “prep” should have s copy of the “LDS Survival Guide” it covers everything, food and food storage, shelter, firearm safety, first aid and medicine, etc.

Get freeze-dried emergency buckets. Each bucket contains individual servings in packets.

Mountain House taste the best and is easiest to use, because you can add hot water and eat the meals right out of the packets. However, it is also the most expensive.

My Patriot Supply is the best as far as calories per meal provided for the lowest price.

Take off that tin hat, sir. There are no black helicopters and Giant Triangles in America's future.
This is plain ignorance. Have you never had to live in the aftermath of a hurricane? Prepping for a power grid attack, cyber war attack, cutting off your Food Lion/Publix in 3 days?

It is complete ignorance thinking uncle govt will wipe your arse and send FEMA to help you find food.

That's different. Natural disasters should be expected, and I have a hurricane-preparedness kit assembled as we speak.

if you don't have enough insight, common sense, & fortitude to: see that at any moment we could all be left in the same vulnerable position as if a Cat4 hurricane just struck.

with cyber warfare and the most recent blackmailing attacks on pipelines/supplies, to: a power grid attack. as Havana created "Havana Syndrome" with most likely China & Russia.

you seem to be living in fairy dust with skittle sprinkles from the unicorns arse.

go to the U.N. WEForum site and study the great reset your party has promised. to get there we have to crash. Uncle govt won't always spoon feed.

calling people who are prepared conspiracy loons is like telling those that hurricane prep they are loons.

It does not equate as being a conspiracy when the documents of the great reset and Biden destroying everything he touches- are in your face.

inflation does not go away like magic like Biden said.

Freeze dried food is hit or miss. mountain house has the best overall taste IMO. backpackers pantry has a red beans and rice meal that I really like. But even though that "30 year shelf life" can be tempting, canned food will last just as long if you store it properly. As far as nutritional value and convenience you'll be better served with freeze dried. But calories/dollar will be a much better deal with canned goods. You can even get canned bacon. Although it's not cheap. It's pretty dang delicious. Tactical bacon is the company I think. All of that is a long winded way to say.... If you're just starting out in prepping build your staples with canned food to start. Then suppliment in freeze dried to get some more sustaining fruits, vegetables and meats (and make sure the meats are meats because vegan alternatives are prevalent because of cost is my guess).
Figure out what you like with the "single serve" pouches and then get the #10 cans in those flavors. Work in some good dehydrated spices and comfort flavors (cheese powder, peanut butter powder, sugars, etc).

This will be the only good thing about what the democrats are forcing on us. Their voters are so brainwashed they won’t be ready for it like the rest . This country will be just like Cuban and Venezuela if things don’t change . I wish republicans would push for more solar power rebates. It seems like republicans use them more then democrats , out side of states that for people to use them .

In the middle of both me and my wife working, with absence of ample land to farm, lakes to fish and land to hunt, and with three active children still at home, I don't have the time or resources to do it myself.
Maybe when the nest is empty.

Thanks to all who replied in a helpful manner.

am interested in seasoned preppers/hunters advice on a water purifier.

Check out the Big Berkey line from British Berkefeld. I’ve used them for years and they have not disappointed. They remove all taste and particles from tap and collected rain water.

And yes, I do use rain barrels.

Keep the 'Gray-man' concept. Keep your prepping on the 'down low', stay off social media, ie Fakebook, twanker etc about prepping.
Don't even tell neighbors, friends, or family.
In a SHTF situation, guess who is gonna be knocking on your door.

Water. Your most important prep. Get a few cases of bottled water for each person. One case of bottled water should last an avg adult about 1 week.

Liquid bleach, unscented, lasts for about 6 months.
Go with 'pool shock', ie Sodium Hypochlorite to make sure drinking water is not contaminated and safe to drink.
Virus', bacteria(e-coli), cysts, giardia, cryptosporidium parasites can be deadly or leave one permanently damaged.

Get some water purification tablets. NaDCC is the best, EfChlor or Oasis name brands are good.

Some quality name brands of water filters:

Sawyer: used more by campers and hikers, very portable.

Katadyn: used by campers, hikers and by many military personnel. Very portable.

Aquamira Frontier Pro: used by militaries. Very portable.

A good gravity fed filter is produced justwater.me(used to be Monolithic water filters).

DoultonUSA.com is about one of the best gravity-fed water filter systems out there.
Also don't forget to get extra filters.

Make sure your water filter is rated at least .02 microns. Most virus size is about .03 micron. .02 micron filters will get just about all bacteria, cysts, virus'.

Make sure your water filter have activated charcoal. That will filter out most chemicals.

The 'inexpensive' water filters you see at the big-box stores may work for everyday life in the US but in a SHTF situation, you will need a high-end water filter system.
The life and well-being of your family will depend on it.

Get one or two of those big blue water containers, something like an Aqua-Tainer. You can get them at wally-world.

I know, TL but lots of important info.

The Mormons sell canisters of prep staples in bulk and also run facilities where you used to be able to bring your own food and they supply all the equipment to package it up. At least, they did before COVID but they’ll still happily sell cans and pouches of food to you.

For the poster who recommended crackers, look into getting some tins of Pilot Bread crackers.

If you are in a pinch, Costco and sams club have great kits online. 15-30 year shelf lives.

The Mountain House in sealed cans is great. I could eat that stuff regular; likely would get fat and that would be worse than the heathen hoards coming out of the city.

Even if you plan on "bugging out" one very good "investment" IMO is a 55 gallon (or larger) barrel/tote assuming you have a yard. Even though filters are important you need a source to filter. With a barrel and some tarp (or the tools needed to do a little gutter rerouting) you should be relatively set for the short term in respect to water (depending on your environment). Even if you live in a very dry area and can't rely on rain gathering, 55 gallons is an enormous advantage over nothing. Don't forgo this because you have a pond or river or whatever nearby that you plan to siphon from. Imagine the logistics involved if whatever happened limited vehicles. Even something small like a half mile would suddenly become an impossible task with hauling pots and pans or whatever containers you had by foot. Not to mention the additional security concerns if these are public and/or well known water sources.

Just a suggestion. I find this topic interesting and a rare topic where everyone has a slightly different approach and interesting ideas.

Not sure if it’s any good but you can order from Sams. Used to be able to get it by the pallet but this and smaller is all I see right now.
