An awesome resource is Ldsavow.com
(Stands for latter day saints a voice of warning)
Mormons are supposed to have long term food storage and money (cash) on hand for large scale events
It costs a few bucks to join but there is everything you would need to know from how much food to store. What type of food, and how to bag or can it for long term storage.
They discuss water treatment and shelter building.
(I am not a Mormon but it’s a great resource)

You can still build your own kits without farming. You can also do it much cheaper than you can buying freeze dried meals. If you are looking for long term types of things...
The freeze dried meals are a good bridge but very few people will be able to afford stocking up on a year's worth of food at one time...

once and for all....does putting human hair clippings around a garden--after a haircut, keep critters out of the garden?
