Why can’t Louisiana do this?

Bloated bureaucracy and lobbyists

Im assuming Louisiana has A TON More Dems in their state legislature than Mississippi does. Mississippi has a super majority Republican in both houses.

Yes, I prefer to own property instead of renting it from the gov't. I did not suggest reducing taxes to pay for such things. I just do not believe in property taxes as the way to pay for them.

Also higher standard of living where you can actually see your tax dollars work for you. We don’t have to pay for private school.

literally putting money back in the pockets of working Mississippi residents

If the state still has to balance the budget, how is money going to back into anyone's pockets other than the government?

He said "Mississippians" not just anyone. Either you glossed over that part purposely of mistakenly, but that's the critical part.

Hotel taxes or consumption taxes are paid by residents and non-residents of Mississippi. Income taxes are paid solely by residents.
Are they wanting to do a hotel tax similar to Florida? IDK, but I do know that idea was floated.

So residents outside the state help foot the bill that once rested only on the shoulders of Ms residents .

I'm still waiting for someone to step up and explain how they plan to fund eliminating property taxes. It's not like those expenses will just go away because you don't collect property taxes to fund them. You gonna give it a shot?

There are state laws in MS on what you can use hotel tax revenue for. Putting it in the general fund of a county isn't one of the options. Besides, most hotels and restaurants reside inside a city limits, so the revenue would go to a city. Not a county to fund schools, roads, bridges, law enforcement, fire departments, etc...

Part of the process over the next few years, laws can change.
Will it happen, who knows, but ideas and actual changes to help Ms residents keep more of their money should be celebrated.

This should not be a problem so long as there is never a drop in sales tax revenue due to some sort of economic contraction. The kids just gonna have to share books and maybe even seats in class it does happen though.

Never would have guessed Tate would end up being the best governor MS has had in my lifetime

He has passed a ton of conservative measures. One of the more underrated governors out there imo

You like being able to record a land deed so that you own property and someone can't just claim your property? I could keep going, but all of those things are just a small sample of things your local property taxes 100% fund. Remove property taxes and your life will drastically change for the worse.

There are other ways to fund this besides property taxes. Property tax means you really don’t own your property outright, also why is it fair only property owners pay for all of the above? Why not a local sales tax of 1-2% so everyone in the county or city contributes instead of just property owners

Why do property owners have to float the bill for all this? Are property owners the only ones allowed to use ambulances, schools, courts, roads, and police?

Flat tax across the board would be more fair.

Still no ideas of how to replace the revenue to provide all of those services I mentioned. Money to provide them isn't going to appear out of thin air. States and counties can't print money like the federal govt. I'll give you a hint, though. It'll still come out of your pocket.
