Yea LA has a lot of built in things that should make us a leader in the south but here we are at the bottom while Florida, Texas, Georgia and everyone pulls away from us.

Everyone likes those things but only if they are getting quality for what they pay.

We don't see much quality so that is a big part of the push back

We all hate paying for shitty service.

It started with Huey P. Long & his back room deal to sell us down the river.

Brokered a deal to subsidize the mountain west with our oil revenues.

Otherwise, La. Would be like Dubai. We would be totally independent from needing any FedGov assistance.

We could build up and restore our own coastlines.

And ever since, we have been like a 3rd world Banana Republic with corrupt politicians, Ledt or Right, D or Republican, politics here are some of the worst in the world.

This prick Landry is no different. Fast talking, lawyer snake POS that won’t get anything meaningful done other than enrich the elites that helped him get elected.

Talks all that “Tort Reform on Ambulance Chasers”

And then backpedals immediately after the election.

This state is doomed, will never change.

Soon as my kids are grown, I’m OUT.

Tired of the simmers, humidity, mosquitoes and backwards politics.

People are great & culture is unique, but I’m tired of the negatives.

It’s bad when Mississippi becomes more business friendly than we are. ?????

You know you can do all those things without making the population serfs right? You rent property from the state. Don’t pay the rent, they auction your property to someone who will pay the rent. It’s serfdom.

There are tons of other ways to fund those things, FL is working on eliminating it now even after they did away with income taxes long ago.

And that’s while providing equal or superior roads, infrastructure, courts and services to what you get in other states.

The governments just spend wastefully while providing poor services relative to private enterprise due to incompetence and above all corruption.

Let's hear your ideas, serf. How can you provide those services without some form of taxation? It's either property taxes, or local income taxes, or you have about a 40% sales tax. Either way, it's taxation to provide the services you enjoy having. The biggest hitters on my list is public schools, maintenance and construction of roads and bridges, and police, fire, and sheriff protection. Those are the largest budget items in the county I'm elected in. I didn't like property taxes either, until I got elected and realized the state of Mississippi could decide on a whim to take money that had been allocated to us the previous year and give it to whatever other project they wanted to give it to. Or whatever project a lobbyist paid them to give it to. It sucks, but in Baton Rouge, Montgomery, and Jackson, thats the way it works. With local property taxes, your local leaders (assuming your populace is smart enough to elect competent local leaders) are guaranteed to have the funds needed to maintain your local roads and bridges, and provide police, fire, and sheriff protection to your fellow citizens

I hope it isn't a property tax increase.

I don't know what it will be, but you can bet it will be something to make up for it.

Muh Local Schools! Muh Roads and Bridges!

"If you don’t pay property taxes, how are we supposed to produce illiterate kids and the worst roads in the country!"

Great points, bootlicker.

unfortunately for now, it's still Mississippi.

I’m shocked that southwest Mississippi doesn’t have more industry and commerce. First of all the area is beautiful and there’s plenty of vacant land. Its proximity to the river, I-55, and the rail yard make it a viable place for business. Mississippi is a good state with good people and an excellent job training community college program.

I'm all ears. But you can't say "the state should give it to you to provide those services", because a locality has to have guaranteed revenue and not be subject to some lobbyist paying a state legislator to funnel money away from that county, leaving that locality with nothing to provide services and maintenance of roads and bridges. Besides, where do you think "the state" is going to get the money. It will be the same amount of money needed. It's just a shell game. Wouldn't you rather be able to hold your local leaders accountable for spending your local tax dollars the right way. As opposed to some beurocrat or state legislator that can leave your locality unfunded and still get re-elected because he doesn't need the votes in your area for re-election.

Angry little man, you are. Why don't you go live in the woods with no roads or electricity and test out your theory of how you like no local funding.

Say what you want about Landry but he’s trying to do this. First step is voting Yes on amendment 2 today.
Without this passing our fricked yo state constitution will still prevent necessary changes to get there

Not sure why you got so many downvoted. He has improved the schools drastically, brought in a lot of industry and now literally putting money back in the pockets of working Mississippi residents
