Why only 4th and 8th grade scores being reported?
Those are the years where they do the main tests.

The school system where you have lots of illegals should be declared education disaster areas.

Isn't that how the tower of Babel was brought down?

Would be interesting to see a study only involving US citizens. CA and NY's numbers are skewed by all the illegals that don't speak English
Yeah, but California should get a bump from all of the Asian kids they have. If my racial stereotype math skills are correct, Asian kids cancel out illegal non-English speaking kids.

private school students in louisiana aren't required to take the state test. only students at schools that receive public money are required to take the state test.
Would be interested to see the difference if the privates took the test. Don't think it would be good for public schools.

Accommodations are usually given for ESL students.
Those usually include a bilingual dictionary, extra time, translated directions and more.

Demographics aren't Louisiana and Mississippi's friend either.

What that “adjusted” score actually means:
Wealthier and whiter states have loved to look down on the “dumb peasants” in the south but they refuse to acknowledge the role demographics play.

So, if Mississippi is not first overall, how is it first on this adjusted score table?
Each year, the Urban Institute takes into account the states with the most poverty. It specifically looks at students affected by this, as they have historically suffered academically due to outside stressors. Urban Institute then compares students nationwide who are the same gender, age, and race or ethnicity and have the same free and reduced-price lunch receipt status, special education status, and English language learner status to similar students in Mississippi.

I refuse to believe this.
The education industry plays fast and loose with interpreting test scores. Whatever "NAEP-adjusted" means, there's your answer I'd bet, yet some people on this board take it as the gospel just because it's in an embedded tweet, and you're not allowed to post an embedded tweet if it's false or misleading.

Its interesting how liberals love to make fun of southern states, particularly alabama, mississippi, and louisiana, but they never address the fact that those states have a much higher percentage of black people than the rest of the country. If you removed all the poor black people, these states would likely all shoot up in the rankings for education, health, crime, etc.

Groomer doesn't read the thread then posts the obvious.
Yes, we have acknowledged that numbers are fudged to protect your fellow voters, dumbass.

Our Supt of Education here- Dr. Cade Brumley is a superstar. The Trump administration has taken note and the Sec of Dept of Education - Linda McMahon- will be coming here within the next two weeks to visit and meet with him.

What is NAEP mean?
Good for Louisiana and Mississippi....but if that means they are not counting all the failed schools, it's not really meaningful.
That said - we all knew that better public school districts and the private schools offer a solid experience in Louisiana. California and New York have a lot of suburban districts whose demographics lift their overall scores too.
It's the poorly run, crappy urban districts rural districts that are huge failures in Louisiana because they can't overcome the burden of being driven by special interests.
