Minorities arrested & booked as “White"

Really makes you wonder what the true racial crime data numbers are.

This is something that has been going on. The stats for minority crime are even worse than what is reported.

White people don’t commit much crime besides shooting jody and sometimes the old lady (which why are we prosecuting that)

Yep, Hispanics are listed as White on bookings. Helps balance the arrest records.

Same thing here in union county and mecklenburg county in NC. Lot of dark skinned hispanics and asians are booked in as white.

It's because Hispanic is an ethnicity, not a race. The World Cup final today featured two Hispanic teams with all Hispanic players. I'm sure that all but a few of the Hispanic players self-identify as white.

I worked booking for the state. We are supposed to put what race the inmate says he is even if its obvious he isn't that race. Many black inmates will say they are white because they think it will give them special privileges.

For my area, it's only black or white. If you are black, your listed as black with arrest. If you're not black, you're automatically listed as white.
Crazy thing is. The black listings aren't absolute. Saw a very dark skinned Indian last year listed as white. Dude was almost as black as the darkest skinned Africans.

Yeah it's pretty common everywhere. I've seen Indian (dots) all listed as white also.

It's because of how the federal government defines "race." Specifically the FBI’s (older) National Crime Information Center (NCIC) which lists only 5 categories:
This 5 category system is now outdated and is being phased out, but many local Police departments still use it. The officer is told to fit everyone into one of those 5 categories.
You can already see an issue. Hispanics (which make up 30% of America) do not have their own category, so almost all of them went into the "white" category. The Middle-East did not have its own category either, which means a terrorist from Iraq is going to be categorized together with a baw flying a rebel flag and selling meth in WV.
The new system has 7 categories and adds Hispanic/Latino and MENA (Middle-east North Africa). It has already been implemented by the Feds, but local PD's might be years away from switching.
Also, you have to consider the DMV which might have its own categories. A lot of times a Cop might just type in the "race" listed on the driver's license.
