The funniest part of this factoid is that socialists will respond to this horrific blemish on their resume by saying “no, they weren’t actually socialist! Hitler just used the word “socialist” to trick the socialists into joining them!”….without even the vaguest shred of irony as it relates to present day.

The DSA is just eminently full of shite. Some of them know it. Some of them don't. But they all are.
Socialism isn't necessarily a bad thing in and of itself. What makes it bad is the people asking for it. When a man acts in a charitable way to his fellow man, he is doing it for the right reasons. When that man is forced to by threat of violence, it is no longer a benevolent act, but a vicious one. The proceeds of the action are not beneficial. They are harmful. Even if it would be used to feed and house "the poor." There is no gratitude in a communist society. It is only contempt for their fellows and entitlement.
It is the difference between earning something and having it given. The person receiving the thing is not improved by communism. He/she is made into a feeble shell of his potential. It is a soul-crushing system of government. This is also why God is removed from communist societies. The only higher power that exists in communism is, "The State." All else must be controlled.
Anyone that believes the DSA is some enlightened group of humanists is lying to themselves or lying to others. Either way, they must be stopped. I don't know why we aren't corralling these people and putting them in prison. This isn't some idea that we can merely agree to disagree. They must be stopped now before they cause further harm.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea isn’t democratic or a republic either.
Authoritarian regimes have been lying with names for a long time.
Hitler imprisoned socialists, outlawed independent labor unions, and made sure every institution answered to him. Reading only the party’s name while ignoring what it actually did is about as useful as judging a book by the cover.
