Correct

When the Dems have control again they should refer to any tax increase as a tariff to get the MAGA populists on board

Same as above. Voted for by more than just boomers.

Baby Boomers first achieved a majority in the House of Representatives following the 1998 midterm elections.

Again, politicians

Most people in my generation point to 9/11 as the turning point and the beginning of the decline of our country.

Boomers been around a lot longer than that.

Boomers have been in charge for the downfall of America.

Again, politicians

And they still vote in their own self interests

Don't we all? I vote in my and my families interests.

You need to go into this a little more and clarify exactly what you are referring to, and why the boomer generation is to blame.

quote:

There is a reason why they call you BABY boomers. You never grew up.

I'm a gen x/millenial, FWIW.

Looks like your problem isn't with an entire generation of people, but moreso with politicians. That i can agree with. However, we all vote for them, so we all share some responsibility.

He's saying no credible person is blaming Trump for this, but much of the affordability problem 100% comes back to the COVID checks and PPP loans, which Trump oversaw and signed into law.

The inflation from Covid was over and Trump was righting the ship then he stupidly decided to go attack Iran

All current inflation is because of the war, and it will cost Trump and Republicans Congress. Not not only will democrats win, we will see many radical democratic socialists win. The pendulum has swung to the far left

In other words, we lost because of an unforced error that couldn’t be made.

Please explain how tariffs effect the price of healthcare and insurance.

I have before, more than once, and explaining it over and over gets tedious, so please pay attention this time.

We get the majority of plastics medical supplies and medical electronics equipment from overseas, mostly China. We're talking about everything from gowns and gloves and IV and surgical tubing and bags to x-ray and MRI and monitoring and even robotics surgery equipment and parts from overseas (China, mostly).

Studies have shown that specifically for medical products 56% of these additional costs are being passed on to hospitals and clinics (that's better than for all products btw, by a significant margin).

They then pass those costs along to consumers, which, for them, means mostly insurance companies. They negotiate higher rates, and they do so at least in part by showing the insurance companies the increased expenses for essential items like the ones I listed (and that's just off the top of my head, there's a lot more than that).

Not to mention, when auto and aircraft parts get more expensive because they are being tariffed, vehicle insurance goes up (for the same reason...it costs more to fix the vehicle, so insurance goes up). This means that between vehicle insurance plus the increased maintenance costs, shipping also increases, which is passed on to consumers, and that affects pretty much any product that isn't a digital file delivered online.

How about this one? Construction supplies are also heavily imported. Which means the cost of maintaining buildings (and houses) goes up. Which affects rent/prices. Again, pretty much anything that needs a brick and mortar building to do business. Hospitals and clinics definitely fall into that category.

So does the tariffed plastics, since they are used in so much packaging.

It's not hard to figure these things out once you accept the fact that Trump can't magically make money appear in the federal tariff account. If it's in there, it came from somewhere, and you can also no longer deny that it is Americans who are paying it since Trump lost the court case requiring money to be paid back. To Americans.

Would you say that these cost are more or less than what is passed on to paying customers/patients vs the huge number of illegals that instead of going to a GP, go to the emergency room and then don't pay their bill. Do you think hospitals write those losses off or pass them on? This all increases the cost of insurance as well since hospitals don't write off theses losses.

Considering interest rates are much higher than recent history, do you think that that new home builds would be higher or lower if we didn't have tens of millions illegals that are renting apartments and houses, driving american citizens out of those rentals and requiring thousands and thousands more homes to house everyone??

I believe we have supply side issues where suppliers have intentionally withheld products from the market. Covid taught them that Americans are stupid and will buy shite, like cars, whatever the prices are. Then that concept trickles into all segments of the economy. Every time I pass a Chick-fil-A or McDonald's the drive-thru is wrapped around the building twice. Every time I pass by chain restaurants in my area parking lot is slammed. People are spending money whether they have it or are borrowing it. The only way to get prices down is manage demand.

I don’t know anyone that denies that cost of living has gone up tremendously since Covid.

What no one can agree on are the basic core reasons why.

20 million Illegals imported grifting off of our system and shutting the world economy down for years has taken it’s toll to where we are now.

We may be in a shithole right now but it’s not because of tariffs and the Iran “war”.

Nobody can be honest about that and people have extremely short memories.

There has also been a silent non MSM covered phenomenon going on with the assault on privately owned farms and the amount of destruction the Biden admin did to cattle and poultry.

Has anyone quantified the net effect of them when factoring in their below market wage demands?

Where does the balance land when you take away their consumption of housing/healthcare/social services while also factoring in that all of the jobs they held now go to someone who will demand much higher wages while producing less.

I assume the balance is still a negative for america, but what is it?

It is a problem sure.

But the communism/socialism solution (See: history of the 20th century) of just killing hundreds of millions of people to make up for the shortfall of goods is never a good answer.

You tell me. This board is 99.999% people over 60, every single post reads like it. Ya'll have no idea how easy it is to spot you, just from the way you type.

And if he didn't millions would have starved and been homeless thanks to liberals shutting down the country.

Also, liberals fought to INCREASE unemployment and stimulus checks and claimed Trump wasn't shelling out enough.

So he was cooked either way and now gets blamed for the Covid debt.

I'm younger than 60, but trust me, it's just as easy to identify the young people on here by the way they type. Incorrect or absent grammar/punctuation is one easy way.

Speaking of which, the apostrophe in y'all goes after the y. An apostrophe in this context signifies the conjunction of two words, so it goes between the letters used from each. (I'm sure it was just a typo, I'm just returning your generational asshattery with my own.).

I'll answer those questions if you'll answer one of mine: Are you under the impression that I'm claiming that tariffs are the sole, or even the main, reason things are more expensive? Or that I am somehow in favor of illegal immigration? Because I never made that claim, and if you think that's what I said we can save a good bit of time by informing you of the truth of the matter.

It is also true that prices will not return to pre COVID levels without a very painful depression style deflationary cycle. Meaning demand has to fall because people can’t afford stuff.

If you can’t afford something, then the solution is to not buy that product or reduce your consumption of it.

What Americans are actually angry about is a carryover from Biden’s insane inflationary policies.

Affordability is a catchphrase for those suffering from affluenza and a reality check at the same time.

They want to have DoorDash 3 times a week then dine out 3 times a week. They want Starbucks everyday. They thought. 3% mortgage were real and not a construct by Powell and his quantitative easing at the direction of the Dems.

The reality check is 1 3% mortgage rates were fake and never coming back, 2 no one in history has afforded a personal food service like today’s young people. 3 needs and wants are different…….
