Super high property taxes, promises made that cannot be kept, "free" food, a smaller police presence, raiding their rainy day funds and.. what was it, the pension system too?

The gimmies voting bloc always get lured into thinking that the present “base level” of things can never change for the worse.

Things can only get BETTER!

Utopia doesn’t come free and “some billionaires paying their fair share!” doesn’t provide a perpetual safety net.

For those of us that believe the govt needs to cut spending, why is this prima facie a bad thing?

Cutting spending is one thing. But cutting not only current essential services and cancelling new hires to replace retiring or other vacancies while not touching illegal alien freebies, that would effectively balance the budget by its own self, is asinine.

Why is it assumed that law enforcement is the one area of govt run without waste in the amount of employees?

Good question when they are doling out billions on illegal alien freebies, legal services, housing, as well as "rent assistance", etc.

I hope these gloating, sarcastic, moronic ladies are the first to painfully suffer the consequences of Mamdani's election and his disastrous Mayoral administration. I hope it winds up really hurting for them. They 100% deserve it.

Yes, but that person who "thought" 5,000 officers were needed could be dead wrong. Thats my point. The same "logic" can apply to any government position--clearly someone at some point thought it was needed.

We all know waste permeates through all levels of govt. I applaud any politician cutting back on any government positions. shite is too bloated. I'd rather be aggressive and cut to much and find out the pendulum swung too far, than continue to act like everything is fine and maintain status quo.

Your creating a connection between two separate issues. What evidence do you have that the essential service of the police force will not be able to be adequately performed with this 5K cancellation? Again, if we start from the absolute correct premise that govt at its core, especially one as big and bloated as NYC, is wasteful...then why is cutting employees not a good thing?

None of this has anything to do with illegal aliens.

This is also wasteful, and they shouldn't be. Because they didn't attack the waste you think should be higher prioritized doesn't mean what he did isn't a net positive if it combats any waste at all.

You do realize that NYC has a massive police shortage and it is expected to get worse as the pace of officers leaving is significantly greater than new hires?

You do realize that him cancelling these hires has NOTHING to do with making government more efficient or cost effective?

You do realize that he is not proposing any other major cuts and wants to INCREASE spending in other areas that only hurt from an economic standpoint?

You do realize that he has been one of those radical defund the police lunatics from the beginning?

You do realize this move is going to make the city (again already woefully short on police) more dangerous? And that will be bad from both a safety and economic standpoint?

Of course you know this. But you like what he is doing and are only pretending to have any “conservative” ideas as some idiotic “gotcha moment”. It is not working, people with brains see through your facade.

No im not. They are both line items in the same budget. And one of them is a common target for leftists.

It's not a good thing when you don't touch the boated departments you like while cutting the ones you don't even when attrition is showing that response times to emergency calls is getting longer.

The waste I think should be higher prioritized? I think anyone with a brain would surmise that taking money from public saftey to start is asinine when your funding of illegals is the sole reason you are running a deficit.

The NY Governor has the means to remove the NYC mayor. The Repub candidate has no chance as winning, do frick it, start running on his removal is on the table if he doesn't get his shite together. Obviously it's not a simple thing, but run on it being watched.

5K from a force of almost 40K isn’t that big of an issue as many are trying to make it seem.

If any of you have been to NYC it is the largest collection of high dollar property owners in America and probably the world. Sooner or later, when there cherios start gitting pissed in they will rise up and gut that SOB. Every Alderman or whatever is bought and paid for by constituencies. It wont take long for them to get uncomfortable and Mamdani will lose all support.

In my calculus, tax dollars should go first to protection of the citizenry and to infrastructure. Everything else comes after that, as we can afford it.

Yet somehow, Mamdani managed to find $1.0 bn for supporting migrants....fire cops, raise taxes to help migrants.

One nice fact not yet mentioned...

Since when does a socialist stay on budget? There's going to be briefcases of IOUs by August.

He's too controlled to cut the ones that need cutting.

He should cut the entire school system, 75 percent of welfare recipients that are able to work.

99 percent of political overhead.

100 percent of teachers that cant do what they teach.

Just a start to show other cities.

Voters that want everything free are a big part of the mess.

NY City was always a hard place to get ahead, but hard workers could do much better than the places they came from and tried to set up their children to become hard working Americans,

How many politicians will get rich promising free shite like he did? - It's scary to think about.

PS Tennessee, where I was born is becoming bluer. Voter ID is a must.

You advocate for social welfare but you’re for budgetary restraint? Huh?
