They will be fine.

They have a very strong lobby and they have all the judges.

It would take a lot more than one governor to sink their ship.

Compare auto liability lawsuits filed per 100,000 residents in New Orleans to other major cities. In Austin, lawyers filed 169, in Miami 110, in Houston 234, and in Dallas, they filed 275 per 100,000 residents. In New Orleans, trial lawyers filed 853 auto liability lawsuits per 100,000 residents in 2018.

Trial lawyer are such divas.

Their "job" and "profession" didn't go away under Jindal or Foster.

Is that the only play the left has? "The sky is literally falling - for real this time."

Went to read about Kenny. His website is down. Seems like he should be more concerned about that affecting his business than Rispone. He just seems like your typical progressive, whiny bitch.

Nah. Jindal came to an “agreement” with the trial lawyers and Rino Rispone will do the same.

That's really terrible considering Dallas at one point had 3 of the top 10 accident intersections in the country, and Houston is considered to have even worse traffic.

Anything that reduces the number of lawyers is a positive to society.

When you can make literally any accident, no matter how minor, into a $50,000 injury claim, Louisiana is what happens.

That’s why they are donating their families vacation money to Gumbo PAC!

This is the truth. Until we quit electing our judges, which is a an arse backwards way of dispensing justice, the system will never change.

There’s a truism that I’ve heard many times: Tired of working with your lazy but charming partner who doesn’t bring in money? Get him elected to the bench. Tired of dealing with him as a local judge who bumbles even the smallest of cases? Get him elected to the Court of Appeal. Tired of him issuing insane rulings that bind you in future cases? Get him elected to the Supreme Court. At least then he can’t really screw up your business.

yeah i think this is a very overrated thing that's only being used to raise money on both sides. if there is any "tort reform" it will come in pieces and not one magic piece of legislation. they have to work out a lot of things

there are different policy issues at play. a major focus is basically killing bench trials for civil cases, which will have to be done in pieces b/c we have city, parish, and district courts. these policies are hyper-focused on district courts alone, but you have to carve out protections for city courts (who can't have jury trials).

collateral source is its own debate as well, same as the prescriptive period and direct action statutes

if people want real "tort reform" they need to address each policy issue individually, imho

Well this is really an apples/oranges comparison. We have a 1-year statute of limitations while Texas has 2 years and Florida has 4.

Do a comparison of all auto liability claims and it would make more sense.

Make sure you read the email

Because it tells you all about what the real motivations are here.

Note there's no discussion about the "rights" of injured parties may be impacted. Nothing about how this is going to result in injured parties not getting the compensation they are "entitled to." Nothing about how they will no longer be "made whole" if injured through the fault of another.

No.

It's exclusively about "protect what's yours"

So for all those morons who think Spencer, Gordon, Morris, Steve or Chad give a shite about you and your injuries - they don't. You are a means to an end.

But I’ve been told it’s not personal injury attorneys that are driving up insurance cost, it’s uninsured drivers.

I have been waiting for a Rispone commercial to blast Gumbo Pac to point out that it is funded by trial lawyers and unions.

Seems like a slam dunk.
