Option 2:
The second option for a new congressional map was also introduced by Sen. Morris.
This map would make Field's district majority white.
Option 3:
The third map was also proposed by Sen. Morris and would make Carter's district majority white.
Option 4:
The fourth and final option, proposed by Sen. Ed Price, would keep Carter's district majority-Black, but stretch more west and pull in Black population from Lafayette.

None of those make sense. Districts should make geographical and cultural sense. These don’t. I’ve seen other maps drawn up in the past few days that make much more sense. No way Bogalusa and Monroe should be in the same district.

Not being a resident of Louisiana.. those map pics are annoying as the chyron is impeding the part of the maps that are changing.

Yeah I never fully understood the pink “Wrap-around”, but it always comes up. Gotta be another way??

The wrap around district could only be avoided with a North La district straight across the state. This would split Mike Johnson’s district north / south to the point Barksdale and Fort Polk aren’t in the same congressional district. This would dilute the stroke 4th district congressmen have in Defense which is less than ideal.

Do these involve Gerrymandering?

Unfortunately the largest differences in culture comes from racial differences. Can’t draw districts based upon race.

How can Louisiana create a new map with a district drawn specifically for a particular demographic?

You know it would be great if the State had a higher population because more districts would make this easier. Or the other way around and lose lots of population to drop in districts...then just create four districts with the line at i10 for north and south and I149 for east and west
EtA: somebody needs to do a simulation. Im sure their are NGOs that have their AI maps.

SB116 (option 1) doesn't, all of the others do.
EDIT: District 1 in SB116 is Dem leaning but solidly purple - 29.095% Republican, 41.547% Dem and 29.358% independent.

There is a huge cultural difference between white people in North Louisiana and white people in Lafayette.

I actually think Option 1 makes the most sense culturally and geographically.
Although i would Probably combine Terrebonne and Lafourche with the rest of the Acadian parishes and put Calacsieu and Jeff Davis with the rest of West East Texas.
Jefferson is more culturally NOLA. Could they combine? Or just put them with Tammany. Same accent.

Option 1. As it was intended.

We’re gonna go with option 3… Landry needs to cut Fields in some kind of way and the incumbent R’s want solid safe districts

Let me guess... Louisiana, who started this movement in the South East, is going to end up yanking defeat out of the jaws of victory.

We aren't exactly talking Japan vs Brazil here. If you were transported to a McDonald's in Monroe or Bogalusa would you really be able to tell the difference? Mississippi adjacent, rural, and they hunt the same stuff.

I don't care if they draw 'em in concentric circles as long as every Dem is eliminated from the gene pool. Games are over.

I don’t think so. This is how you elect candidates who are extreme in one way or another. If the district has a broad coalition, then the candidate has to moderate positions to appeal to everyone. While I lean pretty far to the right of what is currently considered center, if we had more centrists in government we would probably be better off.
