I hope more blue states say no to data centers. If you hate Data centers, you’ve fallen for moronic propaganda. This will rejuvenate investments that have been lacking for decades with Landry opening his arms to them.
I can’t wait for morons to tell me how bad billion dollar investments are that generate more tax dollars than most parishes generate like Richland.

Data centers dont bother me
They are wanting to do a 4500 acre solar farm in Calcasieu Parish. That bothers me.

They will form the nervous system of an alien super intelligence that we are moving full steam ahead on creating with out fully understanding the consequences. I dont hate them. I m just not convinced this AI revolution is such a great idea for the human race.

Data centers are paying local property taxes (albeit, at a discount). However, they don’t produce hardly any permanent jobs, and they put major strains on local utilities (especially electricity and water) while passing most of those expenses onto residents.

I'm not anti data centers at all, however, I don't think data centers do much for the local economy long term. The best thing for local economies are jobs and the fact is once data centers are built, they don't provide many jobs at all

Not universally true-at all

All of that is false

The giant data center in Richland is only producing 10 full time jobs.

Can they take out the Flock Cams too?

The company is trying again. Brett Geymann is fighting it

A bunch of people will tell you data centers are bad. Then go home and stream Netflix.
No different than the climate nuts saying to get rid of fossil fuels while using fossil fuels and things made from fossil fuels.

Meta expects to create 1,000 permanent operational roles when fully built out.
Louisiana Economic Development (LED) estimates it will support an additional 1,900 indirect positions in the regional economy.
Where are you guys getting your information from?

Users on discussions like Reddit generally share a consensus that modern AI and automated data centers provide very few permanent local jobs once construction wraps up.
Even on the low end of bringing 100-200 permanent jobs. That is a lot for smaller towns. Don't believe bullshite on reddit. And like with most stuff there is nuance to all of this, and you will not find that on Reddit.

My problem with data centers stems from the place that they are shitty economic development projects.
They bring in huge initial investments, and construction payroll, but few permanent jobs, especially relative to the huge incentive packages laid out for them and their massive footprints. Any other industrial development would produce more long term employment.
