So it appears that while Russia gains a few square KMs South of the fortress belt, Ukraine gains a few more square KMs north of the belt.

ISW reported Ukraine gained more than they lost. I don’t know what Rybar posted, but they also reported the Ukraine gains.

The big news is Russia has not gained more territory than they have lost over the recent months while weather is good.

Its outage means stopping 52% of the primary processing capacity of the entire plant.

NYT: Trump considers "appeasing" Russia with business deals before hostilities end

Mariya Yemets, Iryna Balachuk — 18 September, 10:09

The White House is reportedly considering signing certain business deals with Russia even before Moscow ends its war against Ukraine, as a way of demonstrating its good intentions.

Source: The New York Times, citing anonymous sources

Details: According to two people familiar with the details of negotiations involving Trump's special envoys, the administration is already considering signing certain economic agreements with Russia without making it a precondition that hostilities in the war against Ukraine cease.

One of the sources, a US official, said deals before the end of the war were considered possible because they would "show that the United States is serious about a reset relationship with Russia".

Last year, Trump said economic cooperation with Russia could only resume once the Russia-Ukraine war had ended. In particular, ahead of his meeting with the Russian leader in Alaska, he said Russia wanted economic cooperation but that there would be none of that "until we get the war settled".

Trump's negotiators are now reportedly looking for new ways to encourage Moscow to end the war, as it has become clear that Ukraine is not prepared to surrender the unoccupied part of Donetsk Oblast without a fight.

The US official said the administration wanted to create more incentives for Russia's elite to push the country's leadership towards peace. The thinking is that economic deals with the US that appeal to Russia could "help convince anti-American hawks around Mr Putin that Mr Trump really does want to create a new relationship with Russia".

It is not yet known what specific agreements are under consideration. After special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner travelled to Moscow, Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said their discussions had touched on "economic issues and potential major mutually beneficial Russian-American projects".

Stil the same question. Who's going to outlast the other?

Ukrainian Neptune strikes on September 12 destroyed three production buildings at Atlant Aero in Taganrog, a manufacturer of drones and components.

One military warehouse suffered a roof collapse across roughly 60 by 40 meters; another production building was nearly pierced through, with damage covering about 70 by 40 meters.

The plant produced Molniya UAVs, and a finished-goods warehouse was also destroyed. Taganrog had already lost its remaining Pantsir-S1 air defense before the strike, leaving the area exposed.
But there are currently 23 Pantsirs protecting Putin's Valdai summer home.

Yes, and the boiling point is no nearer than it was last year at this time.

Second thoughts? Nah, the check cleared. Which was / is his only concern.

But but but Putin isn’t a Communist.
He’s not a Stalin. Russia is a republic.

I'm not sure about that. Losses are definitely higher on both sides now than they were even a few months ago. Here's the Ukrainian MOD's claim about average Russian KIA—look at the trend:

On the other side, Polish President [EDIT: He's not the president; he's the Prime Minister] Tusk said yesterday that average Ukrainian losses (which I think meant total casualties — including wounded) was now 27k per month.

On the one hand, higher losses are a bigger problem for Ukraine, because they are under the greater population strain. On the other, it's easier to defend with drones, while larger numbers of men are much more necessary to advance, which would mean that higher losses are worse for Russia.

I can’t see Putin caving or Ukraine surrendering. Best chance to end the war is for Putin to be kaput.

This should provide some good material for making gifs about old farts using technology. Also why hasn't the Kremlin's IT people updated his software?

Continuing the terrorism, this afternoon in Ukraine's coastal city of Odesa, Russians are again launching drones onto the civilian population.

That's a foolish military doctrine that only makes Russia look worse, pisses off the civilian population even more and has little to no military value.

Not really. They’ve been killing innocents in Ukraine now for over four and a half years.

It’s just reminder of how evil Russia is.

C.I.A. Chief Delivered Bleak Assessment of Russia’s War in Secretive Moscow Visit

John Ratcliffe’s meeting this week with a Russian intelligence chief was aimed at pushing the Kremlin to pursue a peace deal with Ukraine.
quote:
C.I.A. analysts have long questioned whether Mr. Putin’s advisers have given him honest assessments of the war’s trajectory and toll.
quote:
Last month, Mr. Ratcliffe spoke out pointedly about Russian troop losses during the war, and Moscow’s inability to advance on the battlefield. He noted that the life expectancy of a Russian soldier on the front lines was less than 35 minutes.

And he added that Russia had gained only about 1 percent of Ukraine’s total territory in the 18 months since he became C.I.A. director, a development he attributed to Ukraine’s “mastery” of drone technology.

Before Mr. Ratcliffe met with Mr. Bortnikov in Moscow, he spoke with his Ukrainian counterparts, assuring them that he would be exploring Russian positions, not making concessions on behalf of the Ukrainians.

In light of recent military developments across Europe, the purpose of this trip was probably either:

1) Warning Russia not to do it
2) Telling Russia we wouldn't participate

As petty as Trump is at times, It would not be a stretch to assume something like this happened:

1) Trump: NATO we need your help with Iran
2) NATO: NO
3) Trump to Putin: We won't come to Europe's aid since they didn't help with Iran
4) Russia: Leroy Jenkins!

The only way it makes ANY sense that Russia might launch some kind of attack on NATO, is that Russia knows the US won't come to NATO's aid.

If the US refuses its obligations to NATO, the consequences of such monumental stupidity will be severe for our country. For me, this is a red-line issue with Trump.
