And then there is this...
Trump's actions here are very transparent.

If you continue to draw patriotic lines in the sand only to see Trump leap over them, when are you going to finally accept the reality that he is doing everything he can to harm America?
If Trump were not a Russian asset, what would he be doing differently?

The knives may be out for Witkoff. Finally.
quote:
**Two Years of Full Incompetence from Witkoff and Trump**
Kyiv and Moscow are now converging on the same conclusion, though for opposite reasons: the American-mediated peace process is a dead channel, and Steve Witkoff is the dead weight inside it.
Sources close to the negotiations told Kyiv Independent that both capitals are increasingly frustrated with the US envoy, and behind the scenes there are active attempts to remove him from the equation entirely.
quote:
The question neither Kyiv nor Moscow can answer is who replaces this failed channel. John Ratcliffe's visit to Moscow in late August fueled speculation that the CIA director might take on a larger role. The Financial Times reported Trump is considering giving Ratcliffe broader diplomatic responsibilities.
But a source familiar with the situation told Kyiv Independent that scenario is unlikely because Moscow considers Ratcliffe too pro-Ukrainian. Read that again. The Kremlin's objection to Ratcliffe is that he is too pro-Ukrainian.
The American peace process in one sentence. Moscow tolerates an envoy who misreads positions, skips protocol, wanders out of meetings, and delivers nothing. The envoy Moscow rejects might actually understand what Ukraine is fighting for.
Two years of Trump's peacemaking has produced no framework, no written agreements, no pressure on Russia, and a special envoy both sides now want gone. The only people who benefited are the Kremlin hawks who used every American stumble to argue that negotiation is pointless and military conquest remains viable.
Witkoff did not just fail to deliver peace. He delivered ammunition to the war party in Moscow.

The NY Post is not the paper you want looking into anything you are hiding. He better provide the receipts.

If you had not paid your insurance in decades do you think they are obligated to rebuild your home?
They literally laughed at Trump when he first told them to pay their fair share of NATO after decades of neglect.
Now they have ponied up, its akin to not paying your insurance for seventy years and right before a hurricane you make a payment and expect support.

Russia can't defeat Ukraine on the ground. Its once massive armor forces are now in tatters. Its only threat to Europe is nuclear.

Russia could absolutely launch drone and missile strikes against European-based arms manufacturers producing war materials for Ukraine.
I think that would be foolish for Russia to do, but it is a possibility.
The only way Russia would do that is if they know the US won't be part of the response.

Think down the 4D chessboard a couple of moves.
Let's say Russia launches some type of limited attack on NATO countries and the US refuses the Article 5 invocation as you seem to want.
What will Europe's response to that be? My guess is that the collapse of NATO (which is what we're talking about) will mean the US loses all access to European basing, porting, overflight, intelligence sharing, etc....
One of the core foundations of our superpower status is that we can force-project across the world very quickly; if we lose basing in Europe, we lose all of that. Those bases aren't just there to protect against Russia; they allow our military to function effectively.

The very notion that no one knows whether or not Trump would honor our commitments to Europe (or anywhere else) is not good.

It appears things have flip flopped.
Ukraine has gained an advantage in the traditional fighting season; while Russia is doing more damage in the winter season.
This winter will be a big one for both sides.

An insurance company would rescind coverage. Has the US done that,or have we accepted what we’ve gotten?

Neither of those things will/would happen.
Pulling some troops out and not responding to an attack on a NATO country are not the same thing.
Has no one figured out Trumps negotiating tactics yet?

Yes and so have our opponents unfortunately.
You can’t keep running bluffs and not get called.

Then he needs to bring some troops home.
Russia is not outright attacking a NATO country...it's not going to happen.

He should have done that in his first term. Now is a very bad time.
He’s stymied in Iran and he has failed to stop the Ukraine war as he promised. His buddy in NK is causing trouble. Canada took him on.
Now he did come up big with Europe, Venezuela, and to some extent Palestine.

They are dipping their toe in the water right now to see how far they can go.
Trump shouldn’t respond to their aggression by leaving Europe right now.

Paying back the money would be an odd retreat from the Trumps.
I pessimistically believe the frog has been thoroughly boiled and we have no more moral standard.
But perhaps the President’s son letting his wedding be paid by and celebrating a Russian involved in the abduction and re-education of 1000s of Ukrainian children taken by the Russian army is yet a bridge too far.
They should have just let MBS pay for the wedding.

The issue is using NATO air space to attack Ukraine.
He is not that stupid to launch any direct attacks. Crap, he's bogged down in Ukraine, there is no capability to sustain any attack anywhere else
