If life worked as it "should" we probably wouldn't need a government at all.

Business owners have more potential bang for your buck, as least in theory

This is left over Covid $$. $40 per child per month. $10 a week does feed a child lunch all week.

so I'm sure crawfish farmers can get similar insurance for their product.

Unlikely. We can’t get insurance for catfish either

It’s a live animal crop with no reliable way to track current inventory and mortalities caused by a weather event because the crop cannot be accounted for before harvest. With say corn, you can show seed purchases and show a field planted with crops with acreage to match purchase. You can see when a flood kills that field of corn.

Whereas with catfish you could fudge your hatch numbers and say you hatched 100 million when in reality you hatched 50 million. The average insurance person would have no way to tell if your ponds truly have 100 million fingerlings unless they were physically present every day for 3 months of hatching season and watched you do the counts and stock the ponds

Also, and while I disagree with government handouts and bailouts, I understand them in agriculture.

Food security is national security. (Don't agree, but understand the logic)

This shite has gotten out of control and it is more about big govt. Taking the $71 mil required LA to spend a matching amount of some kind. When my kids were in Elem school 20 yrs ago in EBR they qualified for "free breakfast" despite us being in the top 10% by IRS stats.

Just like Oliver Anthony said in his song "Rich men north of Richmond" that when you are 5'3" and 300 lbs our taxes shouldnt go to buy your bag of fudge rounds...

the prices of groceries are never going down. That would require a company not to make as much money as possible for their investors.

Crawfish has no crop insurance. On the rice side you can get different coverages depending on your preference

Our declining this money isn’t going to change squat nor will it make the program go away.
We, as a state, suffer.
This is jindal level stupid.
It’s just that simple.
