Rep. Barbara Norton has been ruled to reside outside of State Senate District 39 and is ineligible to run for the seat.State Sen. Gregory Tarver and Norton sat before Caddo Parish Judge Craig Marcotte on Friday to answer a question: does Norton actually live in District 39?

Tarver and Norton, as of Friday morning, were the remaining Democratic candidates for Senate District 39 race. Jim Slagle, of Vivian, is the only Republican candidate for the district's election.

Earlier this week, and only days after qualifying ended, Tarver filed challenges against Democratic candidates Norton and Shante' Wells regarding their residency. On Thursday, Norton was one of the last to testify on Friday. She testified that she was renting a room from the McAlpine Street address but did not have a written agreement for the arrangement. Instead, she had a verbal agreement with a handshake, she testified. Mark one for the good guys She’s crazy and racist

In May 2016, Norton acquired national attention when she announced her opposition to a bill which would require that the Declaration of Independence be taught in Louisiana public schools. She declared the Declaration "racist" because it did not apply to slaves. "For the Declaration of Independence, only Caucasians [were] free. And for you to bring a bill to request that our children will recite the Declaration, I think it's a little bit unfair."[14]

What is this world coming to when you can't rent a room in a flop house to run for political office?

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Shreveport lawmaker wants to hold gun owners responsible for crime committed by their unsecured and stolen firearms.

Democratic representative Barbara Norton wants to force gun owners to secure their guns either with trigger locks or in a gun safe or cabinet.

"If you have a gun and that gun is not locked up and it is your responsibility, the law says that you have to have that gun locked up, well why would you not be held accountable?" asked Norton. "You are not following the law."

quote:

"At the end of the day, I believe that if someone leaves their guns unattended and someone breaks in your home and they trace that back to that person who owns that gun, well, they are going to know without a doubt if that gun was locked up or if that gun was laying around because if it was locked up, they are going to have to break into the cabinet, if it was a box, they are going to have to break into that box, so the law will know if that gun was in a safe place or if that gun wasn't in a safe place," Norton said.

Bye, Felicia.

I don’t like Tarver much because his brother is former Southern U president Leon Tarver II, but he is the lesser of two evils here.

The part about being responsible for your guns isn't a bad thing.

We have d-bag rednecks who come down to ballparks/arenas, put their guns in trunk, in a locked case, in full view of inner city dwellers, then are confused when tyrone, broke into his truck and just grabbed the locked case and ran, then used his gun for 5 robberies and 2 shootings, then is confused as why people are pissed at morons who arm criminals..

Redneck after locking guns in a case: "Mah guns"

You should have to have a safe, that is welded to trunk, so gun cannot be stolen. a locked case is not locked away.

So according to her we shouldn’t consider our own homes safe places??? It’s the homeowner’s fault that someone broke into your home and stole a gun?? What a joke.
