Watch a random 2016 debate clip and then flip on the 1st 2020 debate. Trump was just trying to reference/create memes in 2020. He hasn't improved since.
2016 was a magical unique circumstance. It's clear this cannot be repeated again.

No non democrat can win w/o the union vote. Hillary lost the union vote because of TTP. Obama & Biden were great lobbyists with Trumka. They bought him back and gave Trumka Jr. a cabinet position in the Biden admin.
This combined with many other things installed Biden to be Obama 2.0.
Trump has a far better shot at the bellwether counties/rustbelt than any Bushite establishment DeSantis ever would. DeSantis, Haley, Youngkin, and so on... would be lucky to get Romney's election map.
Add in the sudden to the right of nuns abortion issue Pence highlighted and DeSantis followed through. (Trying to get the evangelical votes) And the media successful propaganda that DeSantis bans books and hates gay people. And we have a Romney fall guy.
Jenna Ellis is a flake. Our country will be doomed economically before bobblehead meatball or Trump can try to run. Trump will be charged with seditious conspiracy according to boosie's mentor Andrew Weissmann. Trump is blackballed by law firms-they get cancelled if they are retained by him.
So we are fricked but let's play primaries to bide the time I guess...

Yet, you can put a lot of the blame for our current inflation right at the feet of Trump when he added $7 trillion to the national debt, shutdown the economy for a year, and handed out stimulus checks and bailouts like they were candy. (Much more blame on Biden, but it started with Trump)

Maybe, maybe not. Republicans who were less populist than Trump have won in the Midwest, post-2016.
It depends on messaging, and we haven't really seen anyone other than Trump deliver that specific messaging.
What we do know is Trump and the Trump-adjacent have almost no shot in non-Rustbelt bellwether areas (reddish-purple, suburban areas with educated women voting). The GOP nominee can't win without these areas. Theoretically, they can win without Wisconsin and Michigan.

If you believe in polls, latest 2024 general election polls out of Pennsylvania have DeSantis beating Biden by 3 and Trump losing to Biden by 4. Take it FWIW.
