Data?

The various Hindus I know are fairly spiritual, and they live productive lives . If anything, they tend to be conservative and raise their children to be good citizens...
They are mostly small business owners or doctors/scientists, etc.

Hardly a threat to America.

To be clear, are you arguing that Catholics believe only Catholics make it to heaven and everyone else, regardless of the life they live, will be banished to hell?

Any Christian who believes what Jesus says believes that he is the Way the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father except through me.

As of Vatican II I believe that the Catholic Church considers Protestants “separated brethren” which to me implies they consider Protestants as a general rule Christian and would be in heaven.

However.

A Hindu is clearly not a Christian.

Thus JD’s wife will spend eternity in hell.

That does not make me happy. However it’s being honest. It is in fact caring though to discuss it honestly in order to witness.

Yes, don't be ridiculous.

Stop playing that dumb street preacher game "are you a good person?".

Oh, I'll bet we'll hear she is entering OCIA sometime early next year.

Peter Theil - the gay non-Catholic who convinced JD to convert to Catholicsm - will probably tell her to do so.

It's depressing.

America was created for a specific people by said people. I think America is more malleable than many countries. I think it's got a lot of bandwidth for difference without breaking. But, that doesn't mean there aren't limits. We're testing them now, it appears we're committed to breaking through them entirely.

A lot of people will argue we're wrong (you in particular, but some of my beliefs well) on account that we're merely a propositional, creedal nation. Personally, I believe America is a civilization/culture/people, not just a recitation of beliefs. But I think that "portion" of America can and has permitted people outside of that class to join us and become full fledged Americans - thus I'm not opposed to the creedal nation context entirely.

But heritage nation vs. creedal nation skips over an even more glaring issue - we're not even requiring adherence to the creedal aspect anyway. We have a massive portion of the country that is completely detached from all of it - the investment, the blood, the buildout, the sacrifice AND the idea.

The people who have knee jerk reactions to what we're talking about have no meaningful metric by which someone is an American. It's beyond absurd.

Damn. Sounds kinda hypocritical to me. I guess you believe the Pope can do no wrong either.

And yes, I'm a lifelong Catholic...but I see the errs of the Church. If my wife became Baptist or another non-Catholic Christian religion (as long as it's not a cult), I'd probably be a better man for her bible knowledge would quickly outpace mine.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Romans 10

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[e] 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[f]

Hence the call to spread the gospel and evangelize.

Though this theological debate clearly does not apply to Mrs. Vance and JD either doesn’t really believe Christianity or he is incredibly cruel.

I didn't see a clear answer in any of that, but that's understandable as it would be difficult to believe that someone can spend eternity in hell by luck of the draw.

Speaking of cruelty, another question for you. The Catholic church now refuses to baptize the children of parents that aren't "good" Catholics. "Good" is about attending church, for sure, but it also involves financial support of the parish.

If Catholics truly believe that baptism is the key that gets you to heaven, a) why isn't the church baptizing every baby it can get its hands on, and b) why would the church hold the shortcomings of parents against a child?

Okay, so you really believe there are loads of people in hell for eternity because they never had the opportunity to know Jesus Christ/his church.

That's pretty wild IMO.
