Everyone, globally, including all of us, is speculating about the motivations and end game in all this.
Not really. Bessent, Lutnick, and Trump have told you exactly their motivations.
The bottom 50% must be more involved for the US to survive. The younger generations must have a shot at the American dream. A system of tariffs, regulations, and taxes must be in place to convince companies that manufacturing their products in the US is the best financial decision.
This doesn't mean everything consumed in the US will be made in the US; no one has ever said this is the goal. Lutnick specifically addresses this false claim on the All In podcast. In my opinion, he also tips his hand that these tariffs will become targeted once negotiated. I'd argue it should have been that way for the start, but I'm guessing that they believe doing it this way creates the fastest resolution.

Could you be a bigger baby?
LA already has 1500 direct jobs out if this and there's something similar in size on the horizon being ironed out now.
Not every manufacturing job is stitching together your $150 suit.

Glad to see you picked up a secondary degree in geo political economics from your alma mater Southern New Hampshire University.

Roger is literally shaking right now because the after tariff price on the new Nintendo Switch 2 is out of his grasp.

The joke went over your head, clearly.

The fact that you have 2-3 different goals being posted by MAGA-types and none being the goals you are referencing indicates "very clear" is not the status of the admin's communication efforts

Which strip mall is your practice located? Is it by a pawn shop or a liquor store?

It doesn’t mean every country will come to zero tariffs on all imports. They will still try and protect certain industries.
It's in their best interests to protect certain industries. So I can't fault them for looking out for themselves. But our foreign trade has been a one sided deal and not in a favorable way to us, for decades.

Neither. In a commercial building above the 1st floor

Transparency
You want Trump to reveal his hand while in the middle of negotiations? Come on. One of the reasons Trump is a good negotiator is because of his unpredictability. It would be foolish for him to say "yeah, here's exactly what I'm going to do and my exact limits to what I'm willing to take" right before he goes into negotiations.
You care more about "transparency" than a good deal?

Of course they are, they were never going to see reciprocal tariffs, FCS, they just pledged 1 Trillion in investments in February
When the dusts settles, no pun intended, from this handwringing on tariffs. Trump will have separated the chaff from the wheat and ally from foe.
quote:
February 8, 2025 WASHINGTON — Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba pledged to boost Japan’s investment in the United States to about $1 trillion (about ¥151 trillion) during his first in-person summit with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday.
During the meeting at the White House in Washington, Ishiba also expressed Japan’s intention to increase its imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced in the United States.
When the dusts settles, no pun intended, from this handwringing on tariffs. Trump will have separated the chaff from the wheat and ally from foe.
